Extreme Makeover: Pyrex edition

I have a real difficult time leaving behind sad Pyrex when the price is low (i.e. under $1).  I take it home and try my best to salvage it.  This was my latest project, found at a GW on a half price day, dishwashered and covered with sticky residue.
She actually cleaned up pretty good after a thorough scrubbing:
I read on Pyrex Love that some people try to restore their DBD Pyrex by rubbing a bit of oil on them so I decided to give it a try.

I was pretty shocked and impressed with how this one turned out!  :)

  1. Great job! I have fridgie that looks awful. I did manage with a magic eraser to get most of the white residue off of it but it is still sad. I will try some oil!

  2. That's a great tip! I usually don't pick up the dishwashered pyrex but maybe next time I'll think twice about salvaging. Thanks!

  3. I've used the oil before too - along with a little elbow grease, it really does make a difference. Nice rescue of the red bowl!!!

  6. I just used a little olive oil 'cause I had it handy. I suggest giving it a good wipe afterwards or else it feels too greasy and might slip out of your hands by accident. Also, whenever you touch it, it leaves finger prints and, of course, it washes off, whenever you clean it. I am a bit concerned that people selling Pyrex might use this trick...will be doing the fingerprint test when I buy from any place other than thrifts from now on 'cause I'm paranoid.

  8. I am really impressed! I can't wait to try this trick with some of the dishwasher abused pieces I have picked up.
