It's been awhile

It's been awhile since I posted anything.  I've pretty much become very selective in what Pyrex I purchase.  Yes... I have even passed up Pyrex in thrift shops.  (I hear those gasps out there! lol) It's true.  A few really nice pieces, but I already own them or duplicates of them and honestly, I'm really trying to cut back.  Even after a recent purge, which I sold most everything in the purge boxes (6 apple boxes!), I was asked by my sister-in-law how many pieces of Pyrex do I own.  Well... how many?  I lost count after 135 pieces. (not counting the lids that go with.. I just counted those full pieces as one).  Can we say... addicted!

Today, not expecting to find much while out thrifting because lately everything looks like it's been scrubbed with sand paper, I came across this beauty in wonderful condition for a low price of $1.99!  woohoo!

A few weeks ago I also had luck when I found three hard to find pieces in one afternoon.. and for great deals too!

Tiny Pink Flamingo - $4

Striped Bowls - $2 and $4

Last year I found a solid wood hand made hutch that was hideous looking at the thrift shop for $30.  My husband and I finally stripped it all down, painted it retro 50's blue and white and replaced the knobs.  It now sits in my kitchen with "a few" of my Pyrex pieces and some of my vintage kitchen items.

moon deco

this morning I added to my collection a piece that I thought I would never own
we all know that the Moon Deco is more than hard to come by
and forget buying it online
and least online pricing is way out of my Pyrex budget
however, when the husband spotted the Moon Deco Promotional casserole
at one of our favorite mid-century collectives for $40
I knew that it was going to be a splurge beyond any of my splurges
and you know what?
I have absolutely no buyer's remorse at all!
hope the weekend has brought you all some amazing scores too

Southern Ontario Retro-ites

For those of you who live in southern Ontario, Canada, you might like to take a look at Retro Mike's in Niagara Falls if you're looking for very cool retro items, including some Pyrex.

I am not affiliated with Retro Mike's in any way, but I only found the place myself in May and thought it was so cool that I wrote a blog post on it.

Anyway, if you're interested in seeing a LOT of retro/mid-century items in a real home setting, I invite you to read my blog post HERE to see if you might be interested in seeing the place for yourself.

Question

Hello there,
I recently received this email. If anyone out there in Pyrex land has an answer to the question, please leave a comment.
Pip pip!
Canadian Erin

Hello,
I was researching Pyrex bowls and ran into your email.
My mother has a small clear glass Pyrex bowl with Coca-Cola embossed on the bottom. Not painted or screen shot.
I have not been able to find any information on this bowl.
Have you seen this bowl? Do you know how I can find information on the bowl?
I have searched several websites but with no success.
Thank you for any information you can share.

Calm Yourself!

Do any of you have rituals you do to make you feel better? Last week was a cavalcade of crap-tastic for me and by Friday at 5:00 I was crying Uncle! When I get stressed out I like to bake- BUT It has to be in my kitchen and on my own terms (Bob Crocker I am not!) It calms me down, its productive, and I think it has something to do with simple math and knowing there's a reward at the end. Pop on over to my blog Everyone Goes to Mick's for a spell to see what's cooking!

25 cents? Yeah, Son!

Good Morning,

I have been keeping my little find a secret for a while.  Is it that I'm feeling guilty?  Well maybe, or just really, really lucky.  While visiting my Sister about a month back, we hit some garage sales (of course.) At a tiny sale with about nothing, I spied this beauty on the 25 cent table:
Now, pink is normally my Sister's color, but she recently completed her pink mixing bowl set.  I was pretty excited and talked about selling it initially, but I've suddenly grown quite attached to this little beauty.  Plus, I don't think I've ever seen pink out in the wild, so this was a special find.  Did I mention, at this same sale they had Spring Blossom marked for $4?  Someone didn't know the gem they had I guess!

Until Next Time!

Crazy Good Scores!

Walking into an unadvertised estate sale (my favorite kind), I spotted the telltale pattern of my beloved Pink Gooseberry in the refrigerator set.  This set is one that I had been coveting forever and had yet to see the whole set in person.  I had even come this close to buying it online after having one (or a few) vodka soda's.   But even in my semi-inebriated state couldn't bring myself to pay the inflated shipping cost.

After shoving my unsuspecting daughter out of the way (sorry, Maddy), I swooped in and grabbed every single piece, not daring to stop to check out the prices until I was safely away from other shoppers.   Who knows what may have happened had someone tried to take it away from me?  But really, would the prices have mattered?  Probably not.

Well, the set was complete and each piece with the lid was individually priced.  Are you ready for this, dear readers?

(2) 501's with lids-$1.50 each
(1) 502 with lid-$2.50
(1) 503 with lid-$3.50

For those of you who don't want to do the math on a Friday night after a long week, THAT'S $7.50 FOR THE WHOLE SET!!!!  (sorry to shout but you can understand how excited I am).

Did I happen to mention that I am pretty sure that they were never used?

Oh, and if that wasn't enough to cause me to experience a serious case of Pyrex swoon, how about these too

An entire set of Butterprint for $5.00.  Also minty.  Also all mine.  Duplicates for me but who cares?

I highly doubt this will ever happen again but this score will hold me over for a lifetime.

Good luck this weekend, Pyrex hunters!

Erica

P.S., please tell me that I am not the only one who surfs the internet for Pyrex while slightly intoxicated.

completing sets takes time

as all of you know, completing sets doesn't always happen overnight
some days I've gotten so lucky
and other times, it takes months to find that needed piece
well today, I completed two of my sets
I've needed the 402 Daisy since last black friday
when I picked up the other three bowls for only $5 at the Goodwill
and I think it has been even longer that I have needed
 the little 401 Butterfly Gold
I'm sure I have seen this bowl in my outings,
I just think it was a piece I always forgot I needed
So today I decided that it was the day to bite the bullet
and stop searching for these guys while thrifting
and I got both pieces for under $10 at the local antique mall
all in all, I'm happy with these finds
and with the way some of my local thrift stores
have been gouging their prices on pyrex
I'm thinking it wasn't too bad to get these sets done!

also, this week the husband and I celebrated four years of married life
the best way we know how - antiquing
and because he truly is awesome
he found me this piece, again, for super cheap
if you want to see the rest of our finds feel free to stop by here

Pink Daisy Divided Dish

So today I went Pyrex hunting and I came across a beautiful pink daisy divided dish. I already have one but there was no way I was leaving it behind but I was wondering if anyone wanted to trade me this pink daisy dish for another one! I need the 1.5 qt oval casserole, the space savers , I don't know the #'s but I need the shallow one and the deeper one (if the deeper one exists). I know it's not pink daisy but I need the largest solid pink bowl as well. So if some one in Vancouver or where ever wants to trade let me know! You can email me : katiewasyluk@gmail.com

Patience Pays off

I have been looking and waiting for the turquoise hostess bowl to reveal its self and today I finally came across one at a local antique mall. I paid $22 for it but it's in great shape!! I'm so excited! If anyone has a lid they want to part with for this bowl I'd be grateful! I'm willing to trade or pay for it!
But on the flip side it hit me today that I have a lot of Pyrex going on in my house right now and I should downsize. So if there is anyone in the Vancouver (Langley) area that is looking for some Pyrex Im your girl! I have too much to list here but to give you an idea, I have : flamingo pink, lime green, black gooseberry, town& country, butter print, square flowers, crazy daisy, early American , 3 of the 4 primary bowls (missing yellow) and the list goes on. I'd prefer to sell as I am not working right now and could use the money. I'd be willing to ship to anyone who is willing to take the risk as well!

Hungry for Banana Bread?

My best friend, who doesn't quite understand my Pyrex obsession, thought that the 502 refrigerator dishes were mini loaf pans.  At first I was appalled, but then realized it was such a great idea!
I made a double batch and one whole loaf was equivalent to 3 of the 502s so it worked out perfect!
Happy Baking and Thrifting!

Rarities

Balloons...
I have been so fortunate lately to come into some very nice, hard-to-find pieces! Thanks to a couple friends and some lucky finds--my collection is growing more unique all the time.

I picked up the Balloons 444 today off of Craigslist. I paid $20, which is usually very high price for me to pay for Pyrex. But this one was on my must-finds list, so I was willing to pay a little more than usual. It has a few scratches, but is in generally lovely condition.
Balloons Promotional 444!
My orange Butterprint collection grows! I only need two more bowls. I had the 443 thanks to one friend, and another friend gave me the 444. So sweet!
Orange Butterprint 444 & 443
My Gooseberry pink sets are now complete, too. I was delighted to find the 443 & 444 sitting on a shelf at Goodwill {or Gougewill, as I like to call it...} and they were the exact pieces I need for this set:
Gooseberry Pink
Meanwhile, my friend also found the 502 fridgie for me, which complete my fridgie set. Joy!
Gooseberry Fridgies--complete!
I have the best friends in the world.
Because one also gave me this:
Starburst Space Saver!!!
I have lusted after the Starburst space saver for FOR.EV.ER!
It's minty, too:
MINTY Starburst

I have to say, I honestly feel sort of spoiled right now. Almost like I've been naughty, getting so many awesome pieces lately. I have Pyrex guilt!

Birthday Pyrex!

My birthday was a little over a month ago so I'm a little late sharing my awesome Pyrex gifts.  But it's never too late to showcase pretty Pyrex!
My absolutely amazing sister bought me this 2-1/2 quart Lace Medallion and my equally awesome brother in law painted the cradle pink just for me!
My husband says it's too hard to buy something for me so he usually just gives me cash.  I won't complain!  This perfect set of pink mixing bowls are what his generosity bought me this year.
And what birthday would be complete without a To Me From Me gift?  Atomic Starburst.  Need I say more?

Happy Saturday!

A Little Help, Please

Up until recently, I have always thought that the red 404 mixing bowls were part of the Friendship set.  However, I have learned that the correct large bowl for that set is orange.  So does anybody know if the red 404 are part of a particular set or if they were just sold individually?
Thanks in advance!

Early Summer Harvest

I haven't posted a lot of my findings lately, so I figured it was time to bring the bevy into the house from my temporary holding place in the garage and find a home for them.
I will start off with a few things I have found at various places.

First, I found the spring blossom butter dish with the lid along with three mugs (and a few glasses!) at the goodwill a few months.

And I also found a few of my first oval casserole dishes,

One of my favorites is the blue tulip!
And I love the mod kitchen dish! I thought it would be more creamy, but it seems really white to me. I got it at a flea market.

I got the turquoise snowflake at a shop near my work. I am not a big turquoise fan, so when I do some downsizing this will probably go.
And on to another style that I haven't really collected much of, the normal mixing bowl shape. Before last month I only had the primary set, and now I have a few to show! The colonial mist set is lovely. I wasn't planning on buying it, but the shop owner was great and it was in good condition. I paid more than I would have liked though.

But I lucked out and found a set of woodland mixing bowls for a steal at a local flea market/antique mall.

And my most exciting purchase is this Blue Americana set. OMG! I love it. I paid 10 dollars a bowl for this, but I didn't care. Plus, I saw at least two ebay auctions that were selling only one of the bowls for 30+ dollars.

I also found a trailing flowers and homestead casserole dish, along with some gemco salt and pepper shakers that I might post about later on. So far, the harvest has been great, but it is time for me to curb my obsession a bit. I don't have any room to display these items, so I really should wait until I have a bigger hutch or a corner cabinet or something before I get anything else.

It has been SOOOO hot in Indiana. We are looking to some cooler weather this week. Woohoo! Bring on the 80s!

I'm a Stalker...So What?

After leaving an estate sale the other day, I had about 45 minutes until the next one started so I stopped at Starbucks to grab Maddie something to eat.  BAD idea!  When I got to the sale (20 minutes early) it had already started!  I headed to the kitchen and the only Pyrex there was a set of Butterfly Gold mixing bowls.  This is not a pattern or color I collect so I passed.  Then, I saw a lady walk by with MY Pyrex!  She had the 3 piece set of Horizon Blue casseroles!  I was so bummed.  I told Maddie I was going to throw up (dramatic, I know).

With my sale buzz totally killed, I proceeded to (discreetly) follow the lady throughout the house hoping that she would set them down and change her mind.  When I saw that she was headed toward the check out, I followed her just to see how much they wanted for the bowls.  $8!  I felt sick again. Why oh why do I punish myself?

Then I heard her say this to the lady running the sale "I'm not liking the price on these.  I'm going to have to think about them."  I immediately swooped in and told the lady that I LOVED the price and I would take them.  She asked the other lady if she wanted them because I was interested and she told me to go ahead and take them.

Oh the joy!

So here they are.  They didn't come with the lids but that's okay because I have extras.  Ready for the part of the story that will let you know just how crazy I get when it comes to Pyrex?  I got home and found that I already had 2 out of 3 of these bowls.  I guess when I spot Pyrex at an awesome price, my mind completely quits working properly.

On a side note, we are having a garage sale in two weeks and will have TONS of Pyrex at super cheap prices.  I'm talking $1-$3.  Everything is in awesome condition.  I just need to get rid of it.  So if you are in the Eugene-Springfield area of Oregon, let me know and I will give you more info.

In the meantime, you can head over to our blog The Adventures of Two (Pyrex Crazy) Thrifting Sisters and see what else we've been up to in the world of thrifting.

Have a great Sunday!

Ebony and.....Pink!

Sorry, didn't have any Ivory Pyrex to make that title work better!

I found these restaurant mugs in the Ebony pattern recently at a thrift.

My other recent fun find was these two Pink Gooseberry casseroles with lids.

Happy hunting!!

Heriloom Pyrex
