A quick question for you ladies!

I may be doing my first trade soon. After seeing all the badly packaged shipping carnage pictures on the Pyrex Graveyard group on Flickr, I thought I'd ask you ladies for some packaging tips! What is the best way to ensure your Pyrex gets there in one piece?

  1. oh man! i shouldn't have checked out the p. graveyard before bedtime. its like watching 20/20 or one of the those crime dramas before turning out the lights. now i'm probably going to have nightmares.... involving pyrex tragedies. :(

oh, and i've yet to ship anything so i'm sorry i'm not a good resource in that department...i'm just so distraught over seeing the pyrex carnage

  2. Lots of bubble wrap, peanuts and cardboard to protect it. Don't put it in too small of a box so you can surround it with cushioning and Pack it tightly so no movement. lots of prayers!

  3. I have not yet shipped anything, but I have received a few. Use a box that is over-sized, plenty of bubble wrap, lids can be wrapped in cardboard as well. Then surround items with some filler material such as shredded paper, popcorn or other Styrofoam, and newspaper. Depending on what you are shipping consider double boxing with cushioning between. If packed well unfortunately it won't be cheap to ship! Good luck.

  4. i have always had success sending and receiving pyrex through the mail. since i'm a little on the cheap side (let's just call it thrifty to be polite) i don't overdo it with bubble wrap and paper... just enough so there's not a whole lot of shaking going on. haha

  5. Oh that poor, poor graveyard. My heart is hurting so much right now! Silly people putting their DOTS in the dishwasher. They should be...um...well, I'm not sure what should happen to them, but they don't deserve those DOTS for sure!!

I've received a number of Pyrex pieces from sellers on eBay and the one thing that I have noticed is that they all have bubble wrap tightly taped around each piece. And they fill up the bowl/dish/pan with either newspaper or peanuts so that there is no extra wiggle room. Just make sure the box isn't too small so that there is some give for when the piece is shipped. Insurance is a must and invest in some "fragile" stickers or write "glass" on the outside of the box. Pay extra for Priority delivery so it doesn't get lost in the ground freight and become graveyard Pyrex.

  6. I make sure the pieces themselves are wrapped in bubble wrap, and then I layer the bottom of the box with flat newspaper, put the pieces in, and then really stuff in crunched newspaper and balled-up grocery bags, and then a layer of flat newspaper on top before sealing.
