Pyrex rescue

I'm sure you have all seen some sad (damaged/dishwashered) Pyrex.  However, I'd like to think that it is usually done accidentally by someone who doesn't know better.  However, I'd never seen intentional Pyrex harm...that is until today.
Can you believe that someone would do this to their Pyrex?!  As I discovered later, these were the initials of the person whose estate sale I was attending when I found this poor delphite bowl.  Luckily, after I got over the initial shock, I did a little scratch test with my nail and discovered that the red substance (nai polish I'm guessing) might just come off with some good cleaning.  So of course I had to rescue it.  And luckily, this is the result after a good scrubbing:

Yah, now we're happy pretty Pyrex!!

And I also picked up a pair of woodland mugs in perfect condition at a rummage sale for 10 cents each (though admission was $2).  I couldn't wait to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate in my new (vintage) mug after Pyrex hunting on this cold rainy day.

Yum!

  2. How much was the delphite bowl? I came across a 4 qt butterprint bowl with the price written in permanent ink. The price was $25, too high for me to take a chance on it coming clean. And this was in an antique mall; they should have known better!

  4. Great find! Sometimes it pays to take a chance... give the poor Pyrex back it's proper place in the spotlight! (And really, I've never heard of charging admission to a garage sale!).

  5. It was only $1 at an estate sale since it had the writing on it. They probably also didn't realize it was Pyrex because there were homestead mixing bowl on the table marked at $5 each while this was sitting in a stack of regular bowls in a cupboard.

  6. And the admission fee was for a rummage sale benefiting a temple so I didn't mind paying it.
