happy holidays ladies and gents!

well, I've been away for a while

and it seems like many of us here on the second collective have been too

since becoming a mom I haven't been out searching too often for new pieces

to add to the collection

not to mention, it does get harder to find great scores

when your collection has gotten a tad out of hand

but I have been loving this season

and getting to use the special holiday pieces

perfect for family gatherings

this year I was only asked to bring a fruit side for Christmas Eve

[the perks of having a newish baby, and being domestically challenged]

but even though I only brought some pomegranates for everyone to snack on

I figured they still deserved a pretty casserole dish to be served in

so my Golden Pine Promotional Space Saver was the lucky winner

I feel like it really classed up my limited attempt at a "fruit side"

and for those of you curious about what my little one has been up to lately

I'm now blogging exclusively about my daughter on my new blog

ocean filigree find

I am finding now that my collection has gotten pretty hefty

there are very few pieces I feel that I just have to have

I've loved the Ocean Filigree Casserole with Hugger Cradle for some time

but was pretty sure I would never see it in person

or never for a price I would pay

but today was apparently a lucky day

so here is the newest piece I'm swooning over in my kitchen

the colors just make me happy

and the plastic hugger cradle is SO different than any other Pyrex cradles

my last pyrex hunting outing for a bit

[so why not go out big]

seeing as my due date for my first little one is looming

so I look forward to seeing all the lovelies everyone finds in the coming weeks

The drought ends with... Christmas?

I've been in the worst Pyrex drought here, lately! In fact, my husband and I thrifted 6 stores today, and I found nothing {except a few mugs, as shown below, I'll come back to those...}

Then finally, at the end of the day I was out running errands alone when I decided I had to stop at one more Goodwill today. Alas! Finally, some Pyrex success!

Yes, it's a Christmas dish {1960 Holiday casserole}, but I was still over the moon to finally find this! And I adore the Christmas Pyrex and have very much wanted more, so this was an exciting find for me. I paid $4.99, and it's in fantastic condition. It didn't have it's lid, but I found a knobbed lid a few aisles from this dish, it's marked Pyrex and it fits, only 99 cents! Works for me.

These "mugs", known as Drink-Ups if I'm correct, were the only other find of the day. I paid $1.50 for all three. I've never seen these in the wild before.

A couple weeks back I visited a new thrift store in a suburb of Denver, and waiting for me on the shelf were these two Gooseberry pink Pyrex dishes. I was thrilled, of course, as pink Gooseberry is among my very favorite patterns and I didn't yet own either of these. A 503 fridgie and a 473 casserole. $7 for both! Great condition, too.

Oh, and then there's this! Two flamingo pink 080s!

I *ADORE* this size! It's so cute. A friend recently found herself a lime 080 and when I saw it in person I knew I had to have some. 

So I cheated, I bought these on Etsy.

And I paid the most I've ever paid for Pyrex before, but what can I say? We'd just received our tax refund and I had a little $$$ to splurge with. I couldn't help but make these mine. They are absolutely mint, so there's that.

And so my pink collection has grown! Hurray!

Hopefully it keeps growing.

The Crown of My Collection

I know I'm not the first and only one to post about the Bluebird casserole, but I just couldn't resist showing off what I consider to be the crown of my entire collection. {Which by the way, since starting to collect in May I have over 100 pieces! Uh-oh... time to start trading & re-selling...}

So here she is! My "baby". I found this on Etsy last month, actually, and paid more than I've ever paid for a piece of Pyrex before. But, I ADORE this pattern, have never seen a Bluebird in the wild, and it came with it's original cradle, lid, and box! The cradle looks tarnished some, but the dish itself is pretty much mint, I cannot find a single utensil mark on it. Even the box is in superb condition. And at 50 years old!

So I bought it for $18. More than I've ever spent before, but I had some spending money and decided to treat myself to a Pyrex dish that I truly desired. I love it!

Two-day Pyrex Haul

It's been quite the Pyrex haul the last couple of days around these parts. Of course, despite hitting up multiple garage sales (there's been city-wide ones the past couple of weekends) I've had the best luck at the thrift stores. These Daisy cinderella casseroles (471 and 473) were found at a thrift with the one opaque lid for $3.

I couldn't pass up this vintage Anchor Hocking juice carafe that appears to match the Daisy perfectly ... all it's stripes are in perfect condition and it has the original plastic lid! Only $1 at the same thrift.

And also there was this rather sad looking little Woodland Fridgie 501 with lid for 75 cents. It had some strange white stuff covering it... that soap and water wouldn't remove. This is the before... the after is super shiny - Magic Eraser did the trick!

These two white beauties are my garage sale finds ... an Pyrex-stamped Hamilton Beach mixing bowl (super heavy and large!) for a quarter, and an Anchor Hocking loaf pan with a pretty (but unknown) blue floral pattern for $1.

Then yesterday, I found these primary yellow pieces! The top is the largest bowl in the primary set (404) and looks like it has never been used! It was $2.50 at a different thrift store. And below it is my other yellow find ... a 503 refrigerator dish that has seen PLENTY of use! With the lid, it was only $3, so it was hard to pass up. I did scrub it up good after this picture and it's pretty much without shine, but much cleaner!

I had passed up this same 043 oval casserole in Golden Acorn earlier in the day at a different thrift store as it wasn't in great condition and was $3. Apparently the Pyrex karma gods thought I should have this piece because it was at the next store, in great condition and marked only $2. So, I snatched it up!

And finally, I found this wonderful, pristine condition 8-inch lime green round cake pan for $2. The color looks a little funky in this shot, but I assure you, it's solid throughout without any sign of wear! There is nothing I love more than shiny Pyrex!

So, what have you been finding lately? Anyone having ANY luck at garage sales? It seems I've been striking out no matter how many I hit (and I've been at roughly 40 over the last two weekends).

Yummy Pyrex finds today ... barbed wire promotional divided casserole dish ($4.99); round cinderella casserole 474 in Autumn Harvest (Wheat Stalks) with lid ($3.99) and an Old Orchard round cinderella casserole 473 ($1.49) at GW.

A little while ago, I also picked up this great Pink Daisy Oval Open Baker (not thrifted, actually paid eBay prices for this one!)

I'm going to agree with other posters who seem to think that people are cleaning out their houses this spring... so happy to see Pyrex on the thrift store shelves again!

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

There was tons of stuff going on this weekend. First Jen and I went to the Asparagus festival in Stockton, CA on Saturday. That was tons of fun, good food and great weather.

While there and driving back we stopped at quite a few thrift stores. Let me just say people down there take thrifting very seriously!! We were at a thrift store 20 minutes before it opened and the parking lot was already full of people waiting to get in!

We still found some great stuff. We went to about 7-8 thrift stores on the way back home and actually found quite a few items. Including an awesome typewriter desk and the cart these pictures were taken on.

Sunday brought us to Folsom, CA for the Folsom Peddlers Fair. For those who haven't been there are tons of booths with people selling a whole bunch of different items. From 50 cent antique bottles to $400 Dolls. That netted us some great deals as well including an entire set of Daisy Cinderella bowls.

We also got two pink bowls and a Golden Leaf Promotional in the same weekend. Talk about luck! We now have lots of color in our collection and we couldn't be happier.

My Collection is Growing!

I found a few piece over the last two weeks. I haven't decided on a pattern or color to focus on. I am just excited to find anything at the local thrift store. This is a lot of 'firsts' for me!


My first bowl set and first Spring Blossom pieces



My first divided dish. The handle included was a major plus!

I love this piece! According to Pyrex Love is the Compass Snack Server and a Promotional Item. I just love the black and white patterns!

I bought this as a three piece set in the Homestead pattern. I am not sure if the piece on the left was supposed to have a lid too.

I'm not crazy about the Homestead pattern. If I can figure out the trading thing, maybe this will be traded.

My first butter dish!

Growing up my parents had the Butterfly Gold dishes. There is something very comforting about this pattern. It's not my favorite color scheme, but I want to collect them for sentimental reasons.

I can't wait to keep thrifting and add to my collection! I love having a place to share my finds!
