Best. Feeling. You spy the box has arrived that you have EAGERLY awaited...... You open the box and hear an unfamiliar jingly sound...... Upon further investigation you find....

Sad, Sad... broken butterprint. What a shame. I am too sad to even "bury" it in the trash. I contacted the seller and we will see what she says. Has anyone shared in my misery before? What will an ebay seller do in this case?

  1. I had a similar sinking feeling to tinkly sounds when my Gooseberry 404 arrived. The Ebay seller asked to see the pictures and immediately refunded the money to my Paypal account.

  2. What a shame! She should give you a full refund, and take care of the insurance claim herself (if she insured it); at least that's what I would do! That box looks entirely too small. Was there just one bowl?
Fortunately that has never happened to me, either as a buyer or a seller.

  3. Good News, sent another email and the seller and I came to an agreement. I think it was fair for both sides. I am getting 1/2 off since the other two bowls escaped unscathed. Even though, the one I WANTED most was smashed. Bummer. There will be other butterprints... right?????

  4. I had the same thing happen to a set of Primary bowls I purchased. The two smallest arrived safe but the two bigger ones were smashed. The thing is, they were packed very well, so I'm guessing the Post Office must have played football with the box. Anyway, the seller and I came to the same agreement as you, a 50% refund to cover the two broken bowls.

  5. This happened to me recently. I bought a 401 Balloons cinderella bowl. Now, you all know how small a 401 is. Well the seller shipped it in a large flat rate box with no packing peanuts and loosly wrapped in one sheet of bubble wrap that wasn't even taped! Needless to say, it was smashed to pieces by the time I got it. It was the worst shipping job EVER. Well I got lucky because the seller gave me back 100% of what I paid for both the bowl and shipping. But I don't think she was obligated to since I didn't purchase insurance. I guess it was more important for her to avoid negative feedback. I was super bummed though because the Balloons 401 is really hard to come by & I need it to complete my chip & dip set!

    1. @ThrifterSisters It is not the buyers responsibility to purchase insurance. Sellers can no longer charge the buyer for insurance. It is the sellers responsibility to insure their shipments Most sellers will include the insurance cost in the shipping quote under handling fee. If you had opened a case against her, ebay would have refunded your entire cost so she would have been obligated to refund you everything. Buyers are responsible to get the product to you in the condition they sold it.

  7. Oh no, I am so sorry. I love that pattern. I got lucky at a yard sale a few weeks ago and got a bowl (it is 9" across the top) in that pattern for 50 cents. It was white, though, and the pictures were turquoise. You could make a broken china garden with the broken pieces. When we went to the Homer Laughlin Plant last year they had one in front of their store with broken pieces of Fiesta in it. You can go here to look at it. http://janetsmart.blogspot.com/2011/10/road-trip.html
If I ever get broken pieces, I think I will do that.

  8. #1 reason I will not buy off the internet:

    Idiotic sellers.

Always scared someone isn't going to pack it right.

  9. More good news, I am taking the broken pieces to a local jewelry store to see if they can make anything for me... Or, they may think I have lost my mind. Has anyone tried that?

  10. I'm sorry! I've had this happen to me too many times, and I've stopped buying online because of it. The last straw was when I shipped a package back east that I packaged incredibly well, but the dish still broke because of cold temperatures and neglect on the USPS. I couldn't throw away the pieces of the broken Pyrex, either, and put them in a large hurricane candle holder for display (my Pyrex urn). I hope you get your money back. If the seller is difficult (they mostly were in my case) you can contact eBay to get involved. Good luck!

  11. I've been there before, and it sucks - I buy less online as a result. Luckily, I've never had a problem getting my refunds. I'm sorry this happened to you and the beautiful Butterprint. :(
