What Is Going On Here?

We are having a case of extreme Pyrex shortage around here.  I visited several Goodwill's in my area both yesterday and today and didn't see one single piece.  I am starting to wonder if my local Goodwill's have caught on to the Pyrex collecting frenzy and have started to list online.  According to Sally over at Exploits of a Military Mama, this is what is happening in her area.  If this is the case here, I can only hope that the estate sales are fruitful this year.  Lately they haven't been too bad.  Here are a few of my recent finds...
The crazy thing about this full set of Butterprint refrigerator dishes with lids is that I found them at an estate sale on the second day for ten dollars! I even asked the lady running the sale if these had been out since the beginning and she said yes. She also couldn't believe they hadn't been snatched up.
My 9-year old daughter Madelyn grabbed this red 402 for me at an estate sale while I was in another room looking at holiday decorations.  She obviously has been trained really well!  I found this Butterprint 2-1/2 quart round casserole with lid at a really early morning sale (7 am!).  The seller had a "$10.00-Collectible" price sticker on it.  Lucky for me, she was really nice and had no problem accepting my $5.00 offer.
These pieces along with the teacups and saucers in the picture below are all that I have managed to find at Goodwill in the last month.  I was pretty excited to find one of the pieces to the dual server set.  I took me a second to realize it was even Pyrex.  I have never seen this pattern before.  Hopefully it won't take me too long to find the matching piece.

Hope you are all having some good luck finding your Pyrex treasures!

  1. I wonder that too, since I'm sure they do pretty well on Shopgoodwill. My area still seems to not recognize their "value" yet, but are still hard to find.

  6. Wow, awesome estate sale finds!!! I haven't ventured to estates sales yet, but you've convinced me to give them a shot since thrifting has been rather dry. Love your blog, by the way :)

  8. Oh the thrift stores have definitely caught on, and not just for Pyrex either. I'm going to have to rely on garage sales, I think.

  9. I don't know where you are but the Goodwills here in Western Washington send a lot to shopgoodwill.com. I was in a local store today and they had a 2.5 quart casserole (one with a cream colored base and a clear lid with a black and browny/orange pattern, I can't find it's name anywhere) for $12.99! I talked her down to $7.99 because I really wanted it but was astounded to find something marked in the double digits!
