Rarities

Balloons...
I have been so fortunate lately to come into some very nice, hard-to-find pieces! Thanks to a couple friends and some lucky finds--my collection is growing more unique all the time.

I picked up the Balloons 444 today off of Craigslist. I paid $20, which is usually very high price for me to pay for Pyrex. But this one was on my must-finds list, so I was willing to pay a little more than usual. It has a few scratches, but is in generally lovely condition.
Balloons Promotional 444!
My orange Butterprint collection grows! I only need two more bowls. I had the 443 thanks to one friend, and another friend gave me the 444. So sweet!
Orange Butterprint 444 & 443
My Gooseberry pink sets are now complete, too. I was delighted to find the 443 & 444 sitting on a shelf at Goodwill {or Gougewill, as I like to call it...} and they were the exact pieces I need for this set:
Gooseberry Pink
Meanwhile, my friend also found the 502 fridgie for me, which complete my fridgie set. Joy!
Gooseberry Fridgies--complete!
I have the best friends in the world.
Because one also gave me this:
Starburst Space Saver!!!
I have lusted after the Starburst space saver for FOR.EV.ER!
It's minty, too:
MINTY Starburst

I have to say, I honestly feel sort of spoiled right now. Almost like I've been naughty, getting so many awesome pieces lately. I have Pyrex guilt!

Ebony and.....Pink!

Sorry, didn't have any Ivory Pyrex to make that title work better!

I found these restaurant mugs in the Ebony pattern recently at a thrift.

My other recent fun find was these two Pink Gooseberry casseroles with lids.

Happy hunting!!

Pink & Aqua for summer!

Today I picked up my first two pieces of pink daisy Pyrex from a friend here in my city who sells Pyrex, as well as collects it. I found a pink scroll dish last summer, and have two dishes in pink gooseberry, but two weeks ago I did buy the three stacked gooseberry dishes from this same friend. Today, in a lovely gesture, she gave me the Ovaltine Mixer glass/pitcher, as she knows my husband and I love Ovaltine. (I'm British and got him hooked on it a long time ago...) :-)

I took some time this week to put away most of my Pyrex into two cupboards after deciding to just display the pinks and turquoise/aqua colours for the summer - not that I have many, by any stretch of the imagination. So, today I took some photos for my own blog and for this one.

This is also my official thank you to whoever owned these lovely pieces and kept them in mint condition for the last fifty years or so!

I've also put up a photo of my late mother-in-law's Pyrex dish in the starburst pattern, which sat in our cupboard for years, until I started collecting Pyrex about two years ago and realized what I had... along with a 1940s full set of the primary bowls. Yikes. It sort of scares me to think of what I might have tossed or given away in the past, not knowing what I had. Thankfully, I saved the primaries and the starburst!

How to Alienate Pyrex Lovers

I didn't get a chance to do much thrifting this weekend. I did find some pieces at antique malls that were insanely overpriced and nothing that I couldn't live without.

I also crossed paths with a very pushy dealer who lectured me on everything Pyrex. But was wrong about almost all of it. She told me she was the Queen of Pyrex and knew everything there is to know. But that Pyrex and FireKing are the same company, Pyrex's delphite line is Bluebonnet - not Bluebelle, and Pyrex never made a Starburst piece. Correcting your potential buyers doesn't seem like the best way to close a deal, but ok. I was willing to look past all of that and keep searching, but she constantly corrected me when I was telling my son the patterns. I know I am a recent collector, but I know Friendship, when I see it. It's not Woodstock like she called it. In the end, we left rather quickly.

I also spotted this Rose colored Hostess Dish. I have never seen this color before but the price was too steep for me. $29.

I found my first clear fridgie and loaf pan and got some pieces off eBay. I got the pink lasagna pan, pink 503 and blue 502 off eBay. Not sure if the white bowl is part of a dinnerware line but I love it. The Terra piece and stripes bowl will likely go to my trade list.

Hope you all had some great finds!

My Growing Collection

I've been having dreams of Pyrex hunting lately, but very little thrifting in the last few weeks, so imagine my delight when I went to the busiest Goodwill in Denver today {at NOON, no less, I never score decent Pyrex after 10am, it seems} only to find a 3-piece set of the primary mixing bowls {only the red was missing - I paid $20} *and* a beautiful turquoise 024 with the lid {$6}!
I already owned a yellow 404{also in great condition} and I would always eye it when I passed by it in my kitchen and think about how *some*day I would add the rest of the bowls to the set.

So now all I need is the red! And I can sell or trade the other yellow 404...?

I thought I'd share some of my more recent Pyrex acquisitions - above are my most recent turquoise finds. The 024 on the bottom right is what I scored this morning at the busy Goodwill. I was absolutely thrilled!

Here come "The Threes":
The three gravy boats I've recently acquired.

The three butter dishes.

And three new prints of fridgies: Butterfly Gold {2}, Pink Gooseberry {2}, and a Butterprint {1}. I need more fridgies!

I was delighted to find one of the Gooseberry fridgies with an old-style lid.

Above are my recent Butterfly Gold finds - as you can see, there has been a flood of BG here in Denver lately!

I really like the "swag" style Butterfly Gold, as seen on the casserole on the right.

And I know this isn't BG, but it matches. My first "American" bowl.
And here's my recent "reds". I don't decorate much with red but I can't help but love it on Pyrex. The casserole is dishwasher damaged and faded, but the lid was so gorgeous I snatched it up anyway.
Above is "Festive Harvest". I had never seen this print before finding it in a thrift store recently. I like the peach on brown.
Finally - a Gemco server set. Yes, it's not Pyrex, but you all will recognize the print. I had never seen this server set before today, picked it up for $3.
I'm usually a Pyrex Purist, I rarely buy Fire King, Glasbake, etc. But I couldn't help myself from this jadite spouted mixing bowl {$10, with a small chip} and small delphite bowl {$3}. Both are Fire King.
Here are {most of} my favorite Pyrex finds on display in  my dining room. I recently revamped my display to show off my most prized Pyrex pieces of my collection. I love showcasing them on my grandmother's Ethan Allan hutch from the 1950s, which I painted pale green a few years ago.

Throwing them all together like this has made me realize how large my collection has become since I started collecting in May! I have some more in the kitchen, mostly Spring Blossom, Town & Country, Woodland, Autumn Harvest, and Early American. When I first started collecting I said I'd never trade - now I understand why so many of you do!

Thanks for looking at my collection :)

Entertaining With Pyrex

This weekend we had my daughter's 3rd birthday party, and it was a cowgirl themed party. Since the color scheme was pink & brown, I did what any Pyrex collector would do for such a party and I broke out the pink & brown Pyrex.

Gooseberry, Woodland, Town & Country, and Early American stole the show!

It made an awesome addition to the western themed party decor.

Have you showcased your collection in a party yet?

Cheers, Heather @ Lark & Lola

Loving the Weekend Thrifting!

Now that I am in summer, my weekends are virtually free. No soccer games, boy scout activities, no school activities for my son. So I am making full use of my free time. We have been hitting thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets, and garage sales. I picked up some to trade (hopefully).

Here is what I picked up recently.
I love fridgies!

My Spring Blossom collection is growing. My first gold leaf (foil?) piece.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the turquoise.

I picked up the purple pieces for a purple loving friend who complained that Pyrex doesn't make anything in her favorite color.

Anyone know what pattern this is?

That's my haul for now. We are on the hunt for storage/display solutions for my collection. How do you store your pyrex? I want my pieces accessible to use but on display when not in use.

441 Love

Today I decided to do a little photo shoot for my #441s. I didn't realize I had so many until I started looking around and realized I have a pretty little collection of the 441s, so a photo shoot was in order.
These cute little Cinderellas make for cute pictures so I just thought I'd share.
What's your favorite Pyrex size?
The #441s have definitely won me over...
Thanks for looking!

Leave No Pyrex Unturned

Today I got to a suburban Goodwill and immediately checked out the cart full of gray bins to see what was headed to the shelves. At some of our local GW's they put up signs telling customers not to dig through the "new" item bins - but luckily this GW was not one of them. I spotted this at the bottom of the bin, and I almost didn't dig them out, because the reflection of the outside colors made it look like some Autumn Harvest mixing bowls, which I already have a complete set of:

But I am SO glad I did take the time to dig them out (they were under about 10 fragile wine glasses, sheesh!)

Because they weren't Autumn Harvest at all, they were this:
PINK! Glorious pink Pyrex mixing bowls! I think these came in a set of four, these are the two middle sizes. I happily paid $3.50 for the smaller bowl, $4.99 for the larger bowl.

When I first started collecting Pyrex, the Debbie Downer that I was assumed I'd never find any pink Pyrex (my favorite) but so far I've collected two Gooseberry bowls, the Dessert Dawn dish, and the Flamingo Pink Pie dish. Since May.
(Sorry for the bad quality color photo above! They look dull, yuck..)
Now I have two more pink pieces to add to my collection, and they're in great condition.

Today I also spotted, still in the bins waiting to be shelved also, some Snowflake Blue Corelle. Until now I haven't ever been tempted to pick up any Corelle dishes, which I see quite often, but these matched the Snowflake Blue Pyrex, which is one of my favorite patterns. So I went ahead and got several Corelle dishes as well.
That's 1 small covered (butter?) dish, 1 oval platter, 1 large bowl, 2 medium bowls, 8 small plates, and 8 bowls for a grand total of $8.50!

Which was perfect because just a few days ago I found this Pyrex butter dish at another Goodwill for $2:
I'm loving the Snowflake Blue pattern.
That little dish is interesting to me in that the dish is marked Corelle but the lid is marked Pyrex. It's so cute!
