Greetings From Houston

Hey everyone!
My name is Lisa and I live in Houston, Texas. My interest in Pyrex started this past January (late bloomer?) but I am trying to make up for lost time. My blog entry marked my immediate love for Pyrex. My mother-in-law owns an antique mall in Alvin (neighboring city of Houston) so she invited my hubby and me to tag along to auctions.
The Snowflake was my first piece to acquire. I love black and white and was drawn to the snowflake design as soon as I saw it at an auction. I was the winner and went home happy. I went online to find more information and found PyrexLove. I was hooked.
I am already a thrifter so I just added one more thing to my list to look for. On one lucky day, I scored the Snowflake Blue and Zodiac on the same visit. I am a Black Friday veteran so running down an aisle or snatching something off a shelf is completely acceptable.  I saw the Snowflake Blue piece and immediately went into Black Friday mode. I clutched this piece tightly and realized everyone around me could CARE LESS. It was an ignored piece passed over for the more recent, but boring, clear pieces. When heading to the check out, I spotted another piece. I remembered the Zodiac pattern from PyrexLove, otherwise, I would have passed it by. I was a happy girl to go home with two sets for under $15 total.
I look forward to hunting for more pieces. I am already addicted! In between thrifting, I need to research more. I don’t want another piece to pass me by because I am not familiar.
I am so happy Erin created this blog and excited to talk Pyrex with other lovers. My hubby thinks I am crazy but he is supportive and luckily he has the ‘antique gene’.

Nice 'meeting' y'all,
Lisa
One of my proudest auction wins!
Too pretty to only use in the Winter
Missing the design on the lid, but loved just the same.

PYREX DROUGHT!!

The past 3 weeks have been terrible for finding pyrex. It seems like there's no pyrex in the thrift stores and flea markets in my area...and if there are they're terribly expensive or completely ruined and in bad shape. It's driving me crazy. What should I do!??! I'm so disheartened! The only thing I was able to find was this woodland mug for 39 cents at a thrift store I stopped by during a road trip.

I hope the rest of you are having better luck than me!

Any ideas?

I am new here and am loving seeing everyone's Pyrex finds! I have some Pyrex and I love to use it. This dish was recently gifted to me and I have no idea what to use it for. I know I could use it for regular casseroles or pastas but I want to make something that actually uses both sides. What was the original purpose of this dish? Any ideas?

My Early American Collection

Hi everyone! New here ... and a Pyrex addict! :) Just wanted to share my Early American collection with you all. I started collecting Pyrex a couple months ago ... inspired by a great Pyrex photo I saw on Flickr and Jeni. My Early American is currently displayed above my kitchen cabinets.

I have a full set of Cinderella bowls (I used some polystyrene insulation chunks to give height to the bowls and avoid them rattling - works great!). I also have two 501 Fridgies w/o lids.

I also have the 401, 402 and 403 Mixing Bowls, and have the 404 Mixing Bowl with holder already purchased and on it's way (thanks Amy!). Next to those bowls are my two 502 Fridgies, without lids. Since taking this picture, I have a third 502 Fridgie with a lid, which is also up there. I swapped with a Flickr friend for the 503 Refrigerator Dish, which is also on it's way to join the others! You can also see a 1958 Hex Signs 2.5 quart promotional oval casserole dish with lid and a 1.5 quart Early American Casserole without lid. I am still looking for the 2.5 quart Early American Casserole with lid (and lids for the others that are missing!).

Not pictured is an Early American Divided Casserole Dish, which I also have. And I have an additional Early American 401 Cinderella bowl in my For Trade Flickr set. I've been undecided about collecting the 471-475 cinderella round casseroles, as I don't know that I have room for them (and I'm collecting them in a different pattern currently as well!).

So, that's my Early American collection! Stay tuned for my other collection ... and the fun Pyrex I've been finding along the way!

It's Time to Share My Love of Pyrex

This is my first post and I am excited to share my passion for pyrex with others who love it too. My collection so far has a lot great pieces in it that I will have to share with you all over the next while. For now I will start with today's finds. Today my boyfriend and I went out for what has become our normal Sunday antique market stroll. At these places I typically only buy pieces I consider hardered to find and only for the right price.
It seemed like a dry pyrex event until I stumbled across two finds...

#1- A large 2.5 quart red hostess dish with lid

At first I thought it was one I already had, but then I wasn't sure.... it seems a bit larger. I picked it up and decided that if I have it, it's a perfect gift for one of my pyrex loving friends and if it's a different size then bonus. I came home with it and to my luck it is the larger size! So now I have a 2.5qt and 1.5qt and one 12 oz bowl. Clearly I need to find the ramekins and more bowls now.

#2- A blue delphite made in Canada Casserole dish I found this one once before when I had just started collecting pyrex and I picked it up for a friend. I had hoped I would find another one for me and luckly today I did. The blue is so pretty and the shape is unusual.
It will go really nice with some of the blue delphite I already have...

Finally!

Yesterday is the first time we found anything at Goodwill, and it wasn't at our usual store. We were out of town and on our way home, saw the sign and stopped on a whim. We found this 3 pc set of Butterprint:

They do show some wear and the large bowl has a small chip on the spout. I usually don't like to buy Pyrex with damage but at $6 for the set we couldn't pass it by! These will be my "beater" bowls. I was about to give up on Goodwill since I have never found anything there before.

This must have been our consolation prize for an otherwise unsuccessful day of Pyrex hunting. In other stores, we came across several things on my "wish list" but they were asking way more than I wanted to pay. I hope all of you had good luck this weekend!

Good Week for Solids

I had to flip my schedule during the first part of this week from swing shift to day shift. I took advantage of my free afternoons by checking out some of the thrifts I don't get to that often. I was well rewarded.

Yellow fridgie for $8 at Goodwill. A little pricey, but no chips or major scratches.

Verde bowl for $2 at a different Goodwill.

Just FYI Trader Joe's pumpkin bread splits in two perfectly between two of the 502 fridgies.
One to take to work, one to eat emotionally.

Later Nerds,
