What's your number?

We hear often how talking about money is one of the last taboos left. That doesn't seem to be the case here on the Pyrex Collective where we regularly brag about how little we paid for our scores, or justify spending a bit more to get that hard-to-come-by coveted piece. But I wonder if anyone here keeps track of how much they've spent in total on their Pyrex collection. And if you do, would you share that number with the rest of us?
I started keeping track when I began thrifting, and I'm 'okay' with telling you that I spent nearly $35 (including shipping) when I purchased this Mod Kitchen dish off Etsy.

That was my most expensive single-item purchase. My cheapest Pyrex find is this 50 cent BG salt shaker. Between those highs and lows, there's a whole lot of other Pyrex, all of which cost me a total of $330 so far. Seems kind of high to me, but I don't regret any of my purchases, and am not planning to stop.  Care to share your numbers so far? :)

  1. I'm glad you came out of the closet, as it were, on paying for pyrex. Now that there are collectors galore looking for the stuff, the prices are bound to rise. There's certainly nothing wrong with spending money on what you want to get, and actually $330 is not a whole lot to spend on a vintage collection.

  2. I think I've spent close to $100. I have only been collecting since the beginning of this year. My cheapest find being 50 cents for the bottom half of a butter dish, my most expensive being $18 for a turquoise snowflake baking dish (from ebay). It's all worth it to me!!

  3. Wow, what a thought provoking post! I decided to sit down to write down everything I could remember. It seems that I'm hovering just at about the $200 mark. Even with the bargains I've gotten, that added up fast! I haven't really splurged too much, but have just acquired a lot in the last few months. My most expensive piece was a turquoise snowflake (with lid) from an antique mall for $15.

  4. Hmm... I couldn't tell you my total number (maybe, if I really thought about it.), but I do post what I pay for things because I think it gives others an idea of what's out there, what's reasonable and what's overpriced. The most I've paid for anything is $50 with shipping for my mint condition Butterprint Cinderella bowls (all 4). The least so far ... 50 cents for a mint 503 refrigerator lid. I typically spend about $2-3 on a piece and will sometimes spent up to $7 if I really like it. I have a lot of Pyrex for trade, as I tend to pick up items I can get a good deal on and hope to trade for something I'm collecting.

  5. I do keep track of what I've paid for each item, so I'll have to come back and comment later.

  6. i haven't kept track of how much i've spent, but i did spend a few hours one weekend to inventory my collection. i've got things stacked in my kitchen in a manner that i sometimes forget what i have. i'm not too interested in having doubles as my storage space is so limited. the act of writing things down has not only made me more aware of what already own, but has been useful to take when i go out "pyrexing" so that i can find certain pieces that help me complete sets...i'm up to 121 pieces (not itemizing the lids as seperate). i guess i could also use the list and try to recall the cost of each piece.

  7. I have an excel list of all my Pyrex, but I don't enter what was spent on each piece. If I had to estimate, I would say probably somewhere around $800 - $1,000!! I've spent as little as 25 cents and I don't think I've ever spent over $22 for a single piece.

  8. I am also working on an inventory in excel; it's an eye opener! I'm not finished yet but I didn't realise how much Pyrex we have accumulated so far! It is a good way to get organised. I could probably reconstruct what was spent as well, but I think we have spent between .50 and $20 on various pieces, usually less than $10.

  9. Thanks for your thoughtful comments everyone. SharonLou, I must admit that your estimate made me feel a whole lot better about my total number! But you have a lovely collection to show for it :)It sounds like we're all around the 50 cent to $15 dollar range per piece, which is what things go for at the thrifts in my area at least.
