new dots kind of birthday

about ten years ago I started my collection of new dots

within a couple of years I had picked up the orange, yellow, and blue new dots

for great prices here and there

pyrex was so cheap then for us crazies - even while antiquing

and that was where the set stayed for years

recently I decided that I just couldn't go much longer without the green new dots

that would complete my set

I even joked with the mr. that it was a life goal of mine

to have that bowl by the time I was thirty

well, he took me very seriously

and guess what I got for my 28th birthday...

things are happy around here for sure

The Tipsy Pyrexer Strikes Again

Hi Everyone!

The Tipsy Pyrexer has struck again!

A little background on The Tipsy Pyrexer-She normally only strikes during the evenings and only after one (or a few) drinks mixed with her Kryptonite (Crater Lake Vodka).  Unless of course her trusty sidekick sister is in town and then she can strike anywhere from 8:00 am or until she gives her super powers a little rest (passes out).  But fear not, fellow Pyrexers! There is always a reward after The Tipsy Pyrexer releases her powers!

This time it was a set of beautiful turquoise mixing bowls!

Aren't they lovely?  And I must admit, a little spendy.  But The Tipsy Pyrexer sees no price tag! Not when she has work to do & rare Pyrex to buy!

I'm pretty sure that my next computer should come with one of those little blow things on it to test my blood alcohol level before I am allowed to get on eBay or Etsy.

My New Additions

My recent Pyrex finds!

Pyrex is hard to come by around here but I found all three of these finds in the one day a couple of weeks back. I wasn't sure if I should buy the green set below as the smallest one had some grey marks on it from rubbing on something. However I was worried I would regret it if I didn't buy them so they are nowin my hot little hand.

My first Daisy Pyrex. Now this is Daisy isn't it? I read someone call it Sunflower so not sure it I have it wrong??

The Hostess With The Mostess Hostess?

Hi Everyone!

Since I started collecting Pyrex, I have been picking up the little red square bowls whenever I see them in hopes that I would find the large red bowl and lid someday.

The only time I had ever seen the large Hostess bowl in person was when my sister snagged one at Goodwill when we were out thrifting one day.  I wasn't too mad at her because the one she got was yellow and I was hunting for the red one.

Then a few weeks ago, I found these three companion bowls to the large yellow bowl at SVDP.  Now I had to find a yellow and a red?  I could have just been nice and given these to my sister since she had the larger bowl but Pyrex always makes me a little greedy.  A few days after I found these, my sister, BFF Rachel, and I went on our annual girls trip.  At one antique mall, I spotted both the yellow and the red but couldn't bring myself to pay the crazy high prices.  Once I got home, I thought that maybe, just maybe, SVDP may have put out the larger bowl and guess what......

They did!  I searched high and low for the lid but it was nowhere to be found.  Then, that same week, I found this at an estate sale

This was just getting to be too much for me.  Now if I could only find a yellow lid. 

Last Friday I went to a yard sale that promised "100's of Pyrex dishes".  Care to guess what the first thing I grabbed was?

Yep.  Another yellow Hostess dish with the lid!  So just in case anyone is losing track, here is the yellow

I'm not sure I should mention this, but with the exception of two of the small red bowls, every single piece was acquired in a 10 day period.  Crazy, I know.

You won't hear me complaining about a dry spell!

Calling all GTA Pyrex lovers

Pyrex collecting sure is addictive!  I have accumulated quite a few duplicates and pieces that I'm no longer in love with (and have no room for).  Swapping has been great but I still have boxes of "excess" Pyrex.  A number of my fellow Pyrex collectors in Toronto are in the same boat and we have decided to get together to share our wealth of Pyrex, along with other vintage goodies.  

On Sunday August 19th, we will be selling parts of our collections at the Rosedale Valley Antique Market at the Evergreen Brick Works (also known as the Don Valley Brick Works) on the Bayview Extension at 550 Bayview Avenue.  

We have almost 200 pieces of Pyrex and other vintage treasures!!   Here are pictures of some of the items that will be up for grabs:

a friendly find

In the middle of my work day a few weeks ago my sister-in-law texted me a picture of a massive set of Friendship at a new little antique mall by her house. It was the most friendship pattern I had ever seen. I love the pattern, but rarely see it in the wild.

So over the next weekend we took my mom on a trip to get her out of the house and went to the store to see what was there. It was a mix of items. There seemed to be two people selling pyrex, and both of them ONLY had friendship pattern. The prices were a mixed bag, but I did purchase a complete set of Cinderella bowls (for under $40 which seems to be a steal to me).

I am so excited about it! I love it! Somehow my pyrex collection consists of mainly Cinderella bowl sets (Spring Blossom, Butterfly Gold, Horizon Blue, Autumn Harvest) and this fits in beautifully. The set is not mint, but in fairly good condition. 

One thing I noticed is the orange on the white bowls has almost a gold hue. The only way I can explain it is that it looks like it has tarnished. Any ideas on how to improve the quality?
Here I am trying to get a better view of what it looks like, but the picture isn't the best.

I should have picked up a few more things, but I didn't have the cash on me at the time, and the store is so new they haven't gotten their credit/debit machines up and running. So either there is more for someone else, or more for me later! :)

There was another booth that had tons of Georges Briard enamelware available too, and I really loved it. But, every piece was priced at $50 and it was not in mint condition. It didn't seem like they really wanted to sell it. :) Oh, well. I am on the lookout for Mid Century enamelware, so it is good to know and recognize, but I will leave those for someone else with more money to spend!
