New Holiday Display

Holiday Pyrex

Just thought I'd pop in really quick to show you my new "holiday display" of Pyrex! Before this, some of you may remember, I had all pinks & turquoise on my grandmother's hutch. I decided a few days ago that it would be a shame if I didn't break out the festive holiday Pyrex and display it for a while.

My favorite, as always, is the green "Merry Christmas" bowl in the center there. I love it!

But also featured is some Friendship, which can look very Christmasy in the right setting, and some Snowflake. I also brought out some of the Thanksgiving colors, like my Americana set and some Autumn Harvest. Finally, the Starburst at top makes for the perfect tree-topper-like crown, doesn't it? Reminds me of the star of Bethlehem. It's very cheery! I'll have a hard time taking it down come 2013...

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I can't wait to see some of your Pyrex at Thanksgiving posts :)

Cheers,

Turquoise & Pink Have a New Home

While doing a little thrift store/antiquing this weekend, I found this cute old utility cart
It used to be pink and was in pretty good condition with only a few rust spots.  I wish I had gotten a before picture but my husband got ahold of the spray paint before I could.  It is turquoise now (sorry about the shadows).  Since he was doing all the hard work, I gave him the option of colors.  Being the guy he is, he obviously chose the blue over the pink.  Now it proudly sits in my kitchen and holds all of my turquoise and pink patterns
How lucky am I to have found a guy who can wield a can of spray paint?

Have a great week!

Winter Blues

This is what my Pyrex cabinet has looked like for winter.  I love seeing all the blue and turquoise I have all together!  Since I took this picture, I've even acquired a couple other pieces.  I may have done some late night e-baying and this showed up in the mail today--in one piece, complete with lid and candle warmer!

My newest discovery is that I can find some of the candle warmers and holder things at the thrift stores separate from the casseroles.  The top center oval casserole is in a candle warmer that I found all on it's own.  I recently found a holder for the round casserole in the middle on the right.  I'm sad that they got separated from their original mates, but glad to add them to my collection.

I love these abstract-ish snowflakes!

Who can resist turquoise and snowflakes?!

First charcoal snowflake!

There it was, just waiting for me: a charcoal snowflake divided dish! It passed the "finger around the edge check for chips" test, and I gleefully plunked down the $3.00 required by Goodwill.

It wasn't until I was home and washing it in the kitchen sink, that I turned it over and saw:

OMG!! It doesn't say PYREX! A funny logo instead...
Of course I went right to the computer and found out that I had apparently purchased a piece of Crown Pyrex, i.e. made in England.
This piece is marked with just the crown, not the JAJ plus crown stamp, so if anyone knows about these marks, I would be interested to hear.

So now we have Pyrex of three nations: the Canadian-made lime cake dish was recently thrifted for $0.75; it was half-price week at that thrift store.

And finally, here is my January 2012 kitchen display of blues and whites (Snowflake Blue, Horizon Blue, and opal).

Happy 2012, and good hunting!

First Snowflake!

Merry Christmas, Pyrex people!

I caught the Pyrex bug only about three months ago, and have not yet lucked into any Christmas Pyrex, so my December kitchen display had to be "Primary":

At least we have some red and green in there.

I didn't even have a Snowflake piece until last week, when I found this beauty...

...which the nice people at Goodwill had priced at $3.00, probably because it looked so ugly with its companion lid:

I'm guessing they were embarrassed! So I got a perfectly good Verde lid, and a turquoise Snowflake, for the three bucks!

Wishing peace to all, happy holidays, and many festive tables adorned with Pyrex.

One found, one given away.

I found this little number at an op shop that I pop into now and then on my way to work. I didn't see it straight away but jumped at it when I did.  I wish I was more eagle eyed because I am sure I miss treasures here and there.

This one actually has a lid, I don't normally find dishes this shape with lids. It was $6 and looked like new, paint is in fantastic condition as you can see, however I found a flat chip on the handle part when I got it home. It's not very noticeable though.  I am still happy!

My friend and I were chatting the other day and she told me she has two large Cinderella mixing bowls, but is missing the smaller one. I mentioned to  her that there should be four bowls (maybe I shouldn't have told her - lol). I knew I had the size bowl she was after put away somewhere. She said that she wasn't fussy about it matching her other bowls so it became hers. I wasn't really a fan of the Gooseberry pattern when I first bought this bowl (for $1) but it has since  grown on me.  I tells ya, she must be a good friend to be offered one of my precious mixing bowls (which is my thing at the moment). Luckily she is - lol.

Oh my precious Gooseberry, how I miss ya! I know you have a good home now and I can still visit. Hee Hee

Have a great week! Sherry @ Hello Vintage

'Tis the Season!

A few days ago my husband and I were driving along when we noticed a brand new Goodwill in our area. Though the shop looked busy and I didn't expect much since it was brand new, my husband suggested we stop in and look around. I'll never turn down an opportunity to thrift, so in we went. We each grabbed our own cart, with the 3-year-old in his, the 8 month old in mine, and parted ways to look around.

Of course, I always head straight for the kitchen section and look for any signs of Pyrex. But the aisles were crowded and upon first glance around the dishes I saw no Pyrex. But when I finally managed to wedge my way into the aisle I spotted what looked like a brown Americana 404 on the top shelf.

So I made my way over and pulled it down, inside the brown 404 I found the whole set!

 And in near-mint condition, too!
This isn't my favorite style/pattern but I will say it's perfect for this time of year, with Thanksgiving just around the corner, is it not?
My collection has grown so out of control that I'm tempted to sell or trade it, but I also really want to use it for Thanksgiving, too. Hmmm.... what to do, what to do...

Anyway, I placed the set in my cart and noticed my husband strolling toward me. His jacket was covering up something in his cart, I could tell. Then he said, "You're going to love what I just found!" Then he lifted his jacket...

Apparently in another aisle {not kitchenware at all!} he found this:
What Pyrex Love calls "Wicker". I love the color & pattern!
And he also had found THIS:
The charcoal Snowflake pattern just also happens to be my husband's favorite Pyrex. So we were both happy thrifters that day.

I keep saying how I'd kill for some Christmas Pyrex! But I'm forgetting I do have a lovely {and growing!} Snowflake collection already:
So now I have some Thanksgiving & Christmas Pyrex,
all thanks to the brand new Goodwill!

Another recent find I'm excited to share with you:

A full set of pink mixing bowls. Be still my heart.

Also...
I haven't even cleaned this 2qt Desert Dawn casserole yet, but that's because it's my second one. I would love to do a trade if anyone is interested! It needs to be cleaned but it's in pretty shiny condition other than that!

Let me know if you're interested and what pieces you have to offer!

Thanks for looking :)

Happy Holidays,

Black & White!!!

I can't resist the black and white pieces. I was thrilled to stumble on this new in box charcoal piece. I already own one white on charcoal divided dish but how could I leave this behind?

Even the box has snowflakes!
My other finds from two different places are the two Compass pieces. I already have one with the original handle but I still like the pattern. I don't think they are supposed to have a lid but I bought them this way.
Hope you have some great finds!

Weekend Hauls!

Spring Cleaning is certainly working in my favor! I am finding more pyrex than I can keep up with!
Have such a special place in my heart for this pattern.

This piece is a wee little dish.

Love all of it!

I can't seem to have enough carafes or New Dots for that matter!

Primary Fridgies!
Hope you found some good things over the weekend!

Ugh the Horror!

I went to an estate sale today and saw this:

I need/want this piece to be part of my collection and was broken hearted that someone would be so cruel. To add insult to injury--$3? Really?

I hold out faith that I will find something in better condition and worth the money. Snowflakes are my favorite.

Weekends Well Spent

I can't do much thrifting for Pyrex during the week. Is it wrong that these few months I have been collecting Pyrex that I LIVE for the weekend so I can hunt for more pieces?
I picked these pieces up a couple of weekends ago:

See my blog for more. Warning--photos galore!

Hope you all are finding great pieces this weekend!

Leave No Pyrex Unturned

Today I got to a suburban Goodwill and immediately checked out the cart full of gray bins to see what was headed to the shelves. At some of our local GW's they put up signs telling customers not to dig through the "new" item bins - but luckily this GW was not one of them. I spotted this at the bottom of the bin, and I almost didn't dig them out, because the reflection of the outside colors made it look like some Autumn Harvest mixing bowls, which I already have a complete set of:

But I am SO glad I did take the time to dig them out (they were under about 10 fragile wine glasses, sheesh!)

Because they weren't Autumn Harvest at all, they were this:
PINK! Glorious pink Pyrex mixing bowls! I think these came in a set of four, these are the two middle sizes. I happily paid $3.50 for the smaller bowl, $4.99 for the larger bowl.

When I first started collecting Pyrex, the Debbie Downer that I was assumed I'd never find any pink Pyrex (my favorite) but so far I've collected two Gooseberry bowls, the Dessert Dawn dish, and the Flamingo Pink Pie dish. Since May.
(Sorry for the bad quality color photo above! They look dull, yuck..)
Now I have two more pink pieces to add to my collection, and they're in great condition.

Today I also spotted, still in the bins waiting to be shelved also, some Snowflake Blue Corelle. Until now I haven't ever been tempted to pick up any Corelle dishes, which I see quite often, but these matched the Snowflake Blue Pyrex, which is one of my favorite patterns. So I went ahead and got several Corelle dishes as well.
That's 1 small covered (butter?) dish, 1 oval platter, 1 large bowl, 2 medium bowls, 8 small plates, and 8 bowls for a grand total of $8.50!

Which was perfect because just a few days ago I found this Pyrex butter dish at another Goodwill for $2:
I'm loving the Snowflake Blue pattern.
That little dish is interesting to me in that the dish is marked Corelle but the lid is marked Pyrex. It's so cute!

I've Caught Pyrex Fever!

Yet another newbie signing in to report another case of Pyrex Fever. Above you see my collection, so far... and I've only been collecting for 1 month! If Pyrex Fever doesn't cool down a bit, I can't imagine how I'll manage all the Pyrex a year from now...
I've found all the Pyrex I own so far at thrift stores, mostly Goodwill. I've been obsessed, checking the shops almost every other day!
Some need some cleaning up, like the Snowflake dish above...
but some pieces I find in great condition!
I found the above green Spring Blossoms bowl I found at Goodwill, and I found the white Spring Blossom bowl about 30 minutes later at Savers!
My husband thinks I'm crazy, but I just can't resist the vintage charm any longer! More pictures at my blog, and you should check out some of the amazing Pyrex collections on Pinterest. (Or not, that's how I caught Pyrex Fever!)
