A very pyrex holiday
It was a very pyrex holiday here at my house.
My parents bought me these two beautiful pieces back from Fort Wayne, Indiana (Hi Karin and Mark!) as Christmas presents. A lovely verde casserole with patterned lid! and my very sought after pink gooseberry fridigie! The gravy boat (sans underplate) was from my "inlaws". I was spoiled. My boyfriend even bought me the pyrex collectors book, although I'm still unsure as to whether he supports this addiction.
I replied to a message on kijiji and ended up scoring all this.
It belonged to the womans mother and the butterprint set had been a wedding present to her.
I love the history you get when you buy pyrex from people rather than from a store.
I got these three over two days from two different VVs.
A verde 043, a blue horizon and a friendship orange with daisy lid.

But, this was the best find of the holiday. Another craigslist find and I paid, get ready for it....
FIVE DOLLARS! She's gorgeous, there's some scratches but they're all on the bottom. The woman I got it from said she got it as a wedding present in 1961. I think she's survived very well.
That's all for me for now,
Hope you all had a wonderful, pyrex filled holiday.

Merry Christmas to me! (and all of you!)
I've had a few very good Pyrex days.
The other day I was out visiting my inlaws and
found all of these!
Autumn harvest is one of my favourite patterns. It was 1.99.
I don't love the woodland pattern, but, I do love that oval casserole. It was 4.99 and the verde lid which came without its dish was 1.99. I'll find you one day.
Then, at goodwill I found this! I was so excited when I saw it. It was hiding face down under a few pie plates and other uninteresting stuff. There was no matching dish though. oh well.
Went thrifting this morning at some value villages that I don't normally visit. I found some real gems. This awesome Town and Country oval casserole, it was 5.99. Then this Colonial Mist 472. I never used to love this pattern, but it's really grown on me.
And last but, definitely not least. I found this! I tried to find a name for the pattern, but, couldn't really nail one down. Any help? It's not in the best shape, it has a few scratches and some utensil markings but, I love it just the same. I was really hoping for some christmas pyrex, and this is good enough for me.
It was hiding with some sad looking pink mixing bowls. I wanted to take them home but, the small one was 4.99 and the larger was 5.99. That's a bit much for two bowls that are ruined.
I also saw this unfortunate bowl. A pink daisy cinderella 403 that had also seen better days.

Thanks for reading! (sorry for the length, I just had to share it all!)

Happy Holidays!

Also, I don't know if anyone on here watches (or, watched since it was cancelled awhile ago) American Dreams but if you do there are lots of pyrex cameos. Like this one, a snowflake blue 404? anyone recognize the one with wheat (or are they trees?) on it?

First Snowflake!
Merry Christmas, Pyrex people!
I caught the Pyrex bug only about three months ago, and have not yet lucked into any Christmas Pyrex, so my December kitchen display had to be "Primary":
...which the nice people at Goodwill had priced at $3.00, probably because it looked so ugly with its companion lid:
Wishing peace to all, happy holidays, and many festive tables adorned with Pyrex.

Verde, Fridgies, and Philbe--oh my!
My recent finds report!
After hitting up about 8 thrift stores this week {I have a problem} I *finally* found some decent Pyrex! This Verde casserole set is exciting for me because I found it in absolute mint condition. You know when you can just tell that a piece was never used? It's as shiny as the day it was born and there is not a utensil scratch to be found. I picked this set up for $19.99.
To show you how minty this set is, here I have the middle casserole next to an identical one I'd found ages ago, very beat up. I only paid 99 cents for it, though.
Speaking of 99 cents...
I never find fridgies! But just as I was about to leave a Goodwill the other day empty handed, they bussed out another cart full of things to rummage through. After a little digging, I found these two Butterprint fridgies. Score!
Only one had a lid, but, check out these prices!
99 cents each. Now that's more like it, Mr. Goodwill!
I was expecting to see $5.99 or possibly more, the way thrift stores have started to recognize collectibles and gouge us. So this was a happy surprise.
Another Verde, another fridgie was destined to find me this past month, also:
I'm thinking I'm going to use it to pile up my Christmas cards in this year!
This set is promised to a friend since I'm not a huge fan of Colonial Mist, but just one more bowl will make it a complete set. It was sold as a bundle, which I've been seeing more of lately--have you? It came with a sad, destroyed Daisy bowl:
Snowflake Blue, on the other hand, is one of my very favorites. I own almost the complete set of Corelle dishes which I've thrifted here and there. Those have been easy to find, but the actual Pyrex has been more elusive. Finally, I found the large Cinderella bowl recently, and a friend swapped me the casserole for a pink Dessert Dawn that I had multiples of. We both win!
And I already owned the lime loaf dish, but I was excited to pick up the baking dish this past month, too. I love this color. It's so cheery. I will definitely hope for more of it...
One last thing!
So until recently I've considered myself a "Pyrex Purist." But then I started to fall for Fire-King's Sapphire Blue Philbe pattern. I'm curious if any of you other collectors pick up other glassware, or do you all just stick to Pyrex?
I absolutely fell in love with this Sapphire Blue Philbe refrigerator dish I found recently! I snatched it up for $5.99. I didn't even know this pattern came in this size.
I've also managed to thrift a pie dish and a casserole...
I just have a thing for this pattern, I guess! Are there any other Philbe collectors out there???
I guess I'm a Pyrex Purist no more!
My husband is probably thinking, "Greeeaaat... another thing to collect!"
Merry Christmas!

new finds & happy holidays!
I found this first little Dandelion Duet Promotional while thrifting. Typically this particular store always charges SO much for Pyrex, but not this little guy. It had some orangish spots, that happened to come off without any effort, but I guess they didn't think they would.
I picked it up - with the wrong lid - for $2.
The next little guy I found at an antique mall but just couldn't pass it up for $5, because, seriously, it is SO small & SO cute! The salt shaker isn't new, just there for sizing purposes! I did however thrift it a while back for .49 cents, and yes, I do have the pepper shaker too!
My obsession started with Spring Blossom when I was about 18. I've always loved green, so green Pyrex is no exception! I picked up these verde fridges IN THE BOX! I am so in love. In fact, I re-arranged the WHOLE pyrex display to get all my green lovin' together on one shelf. I'll have to take some "group" shots soon!
Now this last casserole is not new, but I couldn't pass up the chance to take a shot of it by the Christmas tree, yes, I do decorate on the retail schedule. So pretty and ready to be used this holiday season.
So there you go - new little treasures for me!
Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

mystery bowls
Today, in honor of national thrift store day - I went thrifting. Sorry for the non-pyrex popping up in the photo, they were just a part of today's haul. Anyways, back to the pyrex - picked up this verde casserole in perfect condition. And then there are these bowls. They looked like pyrex, they felt like pyrex, and yes, the bottom reassured me that they are. The question is - what are they? Any ideas? I have been trying to find something on them, but my knowledge of dinnerware is not too great.
I love when checking out today with these bowls the nice young man let me know that I had an odd amount. Now, that doesn't seem strange to me considering I'm at a thrift store, and I just picked up everything on the shelf. But apparently, this is a problem for some people. I surely wasn't going to leave one bowl behind - especially not for .49 cents!Miss Macri @ Educated...not so Domesticated

My First Trade
I conducted this trade a while ago now, but I just realized today that I never shared it! (shame on me)
I traded a 2qt snowflake blue casserole (this one)
for this 2qt verde bowl
I tend to like bowls better than casseroles because I find them more useful. What kinds of pyrex do you all find most useful?
Aki
P.S. check out my thrifty finds on my new blog!!

Weekend Roadtrip
I'm a lucky girl to have a husband who is completely supportive of my pyrex collecting. He's also always up for a little driving. Where I live, the homes are newer, and I have trouble finding pieces. We decided to drive to the next county over for a tour of their Goodwills and did pretty well. Clockwise from top left: #444 Town and Country cinderella mixing bowl; #403 Spring Blossom mixing bowl; #401 Spring Blossom mixing bowl; #443 Gooseberry cinderella mixing bowl; #743 Verde bake & store casserole. I picked all this up for a total of $12, which I'm very pleased with.
While it was the pink and aqua pyrex that attracted me to collecting, I'm finding new appreciation for some of the less popular color schemes, the greens and browns in particular. Normally, I'm not a fan of green, but this little Verde casserole is just too cute. It's lonely though, and needs more Verde friends to hang out with.

Cradle for Pennies
I was at my local Goodwill by the pound last week, where I saw this lurking under a pile of stuff:
A cradle! It's missing a handle cover, but considering I probably paid less than $1-who cares? Check out the detail on the band:
It holds the 2.5 qt casserole, here it is with my Verde:
I couldn't find this particular shape in the Pyrex guides. I wonder which pattern it belongs to? Any ideas?

An uncommon find!
On my way to visit my parents in Madison, Wisconsin earlier this week, I made a list of thrift stores to hit up in various towns along the way. At one, I came across this piece of promotional Pyrex, called Olive Medallion. It is the 045 oval casserole (2.5 quart size - my favorite!). While this side of the dish looks great, the pattern on the backside has quite a bit of smudging to the paint. It likely came from the factory that way. I paid $2.99 for it. I'll still have to find a lid for it, but it's staying with my collection! According to what I can find online, this promotional pattern was available on the 043 and 045 casseroles in 1964.
And, between two other stores, I found this nice stack of round cinderella casseroles. Although the green looks a little off color-wise in the picture, it's spot on in real life! All of these look like they've never been used. Bottom is a Verde 473, middle is a Daisy 472 with clear lid (not the Daisy lid is should have come with) and top is a Butterfly Gold 472 with clear lid. The bottom two were $4 each and the top one was $3.
