Any Explanations?

I was out at a "local" (It's an hour from my house in Toronto) antique market on the weekend and found this! I've have been thinking "Shenandoah" was the name of this pattern...

I posted this photo to my Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/lulubellevintage/) and we thought maybe they thought "Shenadoah" was too "American" and they changed it's name for Canada to Wintergreen. We couldn't imagine what they were thinking. how does this pattern look wintery at all?!

So, HoneyberryHaskap said this in regards to this find on Flickr  "Here is the official word from Corelle Corner:
In Canada, Shenandoah was named Wintergreen instead, but the pattern is exactly the same. It is still American-made Pyrex, but in a different box."
It's always neat to find little bits of information like this lying around.

Also, If you're located in or near Toronto and are feeling vintage thrifty there's a clothing (and other cool stuff) sale happening on Sunday Feb,26. Check out the link for information. It's going to be great! Clothing Sale!

My Mom's Pyrex

Well, I came to the Pyrex Collective and I was going to post about my mom's pyrex and I saw that Abby had posted about her grandmother's. So, I'm going to continue the theme and talk about these:

I'm visiting my parents' house for a few days and thought I'd share this set that I've been eying for a while now. This is my mom's pyrex, a shenandoah bowl set. She bought it as a young married woman in India in the early 80s (things came out later there than in the US back then). However, when we moved to the US in '91, the pyrex had to stay behind! After 15-20 years of settlement in America, the old pyrex and a few other pieces of heirloom china and crockery were finally remembered. They had been staying in storage with a good friend and so we asked everything to be shipped. Then, a few years ago we received a big crate with a whole bunch of kitchenware in it. This shenandoah set was one of the things that came out of it. Back then, I wasn't collecting pyrex. But when I did realize that my mom had a set of pyrex dishes I was thrilled!

When I told my parents' about my obsession with pyrex, they were happy and very supportive. My dad reminisced a lot about his mom's pyrex and particularly remembered a turquoise blue snowflake dish that she had. So when I found it on Ebay I bought it for him as a gift. He loved it. Pyrex made memories for my parents and I hope it will make them for me and my family too!

My rapidly growing collection

I am starting to run out of room... I will have to start the art of "stacking" here soon.... my husband admitted to me last night that he is "worried".... not because of the money I am spending (not spending much!) but because of how much I have found so quickly... I wonder what my kitchen will look like three months from now?! ;-)

I've Caught Pyrex Fever!

Yet another newbie signing in to report another case of Pyrex Fever. Above you see my collection, so far... and I've only been collecting for 1 month! If Pyrex Fever doesn't cool down a bit, I can't imagine how I'll manage all the Pyrex a year from now...
I've found all the Pyrex I own so far at thrift stores, mostly Goodwill. I've been obsessed, checking the shops almost every other day!
Some need some cleaning up, like the Snowflake dish above...
but some pieces I find in great condition!
I found the above green Spring Blossoms bowl I found at Goodwill, and I found the white Spring Blossom bowl about 30 minutes later at Savers!
My husband thinks I'm crazy, but I just can't resist the vintage charm any longer! More pictures at my blog, and you should check out some of the amazing Pyrex collections on Pinterest. (Or not, that's how I caught Pyrex Fever!)
