~ Pyrex Butterprint... and my can of Bar Keepers Friend....

I am late. So late. I had not realize there was a contest going on for Bar Keepers Friend.

What I can do... is show off why I love this magical can of goodness. Along with my Mr. Clean sponge. These two items are my go to cleaning products for practically everything in my kitchen.  Especially when cleaning vintage glassware.

See that cooked on... grime covered Butterprint dish. The one that the glass lid had decades worth of burnt nasty in all the grooves.

The one that I purchased for 3.99 at the thrift store. And had been there looking all ugly, with no takers. Well it got a forever home with me. I knew I could make it pretty again.

With a little time... a sink of warm water and that can of Bar Keepers Friend. A little miracle can happen. I pour some power out on the counter and dip my damp sponge in it. And get to rubbing.

Look how pretty she turned out!  The only time I have run into issues with baked on grime... is in those tiny thin areas on the inner handle. It requires a tooth pick or a small tooth brush... a wet paste made from Bar Keepers... and patience. Sometimes I need a little help with the patience.

I have always used Bar Keepers Friend for cleaning my vintage glass. It has never dulled anything I have worked on. Or scratch up the design.

(Every thought shared here, is from my own bias opinion. These pictures are from my original post from Farm Girl Pink @ 2013 which I decided to share here. Strictly so you can see how well the product has worked for me in the past. And I buy my Bar Keepers Friend from my local Kroger...)

~ Baking in Pyrex....

I have a odd attachment to this set of lime green bake ware from Pyrex. This lovely lime green square 8x8 Pyrex pan, is my favorite one for brownies.

The thing about the vintage Pyrex for me... is that I know how it will perform in the oven. No guess work. Preheat the oven to 350. Cook for 23 minutes. And I get a perfect set of brownies each time.

And of course, I always bake them from scratch. That is if a package of Betty Crocker brownie mix and my favorite can of Baker's Joy counts as, from scratch. :)

Ebony and.....Pink!

Sorry, didn't have any Ivory Pyrex to make that title work better!

I found these restaurant mugs in the Ebony pattern recently at a thrift.

My other recent fun find was these two Pink Gooseberry casseroles with lids.

Happy hunting!!

Mystery dish

Hi all! This is my very first post here, though I've been commenting for awhile. My sweet husband picked up this little green casserole for me for $4 today, minus lid. It's a one quart dish, and it says that it's a 473. My question is, is it a verde or is it "vintage" (the one with the grapes on the lid)? How would I know? There's another number on the bottom but I can't tell what it signifies. It's 23 or 29 or something, I can't remember.

I look forward to posting more of my collection!

Lately, I've been getting a lot of my Pyrex in trades. I really love getting Pyrex this way and am glad to know that what I'm sending off is going to a new, happy home.

Here are some of my recent trades (sorry, some aren't Pyrex, but I wanted to share, anyway).

Oldies, but Goodies

The thrift stores must have seen some house clean-outs, because I found some old-timers.

Pie plates...I have so many pie plates! I can't help myself - if it has "$", I buy it! I really need to start making pies.

I'm stumped with this little guy. Is it a fridgie dish of sorts? Some type of utility dish? Yup, it has a "$" on the bottom.

And finally, another stumper. Is it a carafe? Was it for a restaurant? It's from Silex Co. and the lid comes off completely.

Silex Small Carafe?

I'd appreciate a history lesson on any of these! :)

It's About Time!

I have been a follower and member of this blog for over a year and never posted! I've drooled over everyone's posts and finally summoned up the courage to make my own.

Usually, Pyrex piles up on my dining table and waits to be washed and then taken on a photo shoot, so sometimes months worth of pictures don't make it up until all at once.

Here's what's been lurking on my table for too long (with more pictures waiting to be uploaded!).

Complete Flameware!

Blue Band Coffee Mug

Terra Casseroles

I'm also so late in showing off some of the trades I was apart of. The following pictures were from a great trade with the_robins.nest, over at Flickr's Pyrex For Trade group.

Homestead and Butterfly Gold II Mixing Bowls 401

That's it for now, but there's so much more to come!

Check out my blog, A Second Hand Life, for more adventures. And, if you're looking for some recipes to bake in your lovely Pyrex, check out my recipe blog, Recipes For Me and You!

At The Magpie

I don't have a lot of "thrifting" locations around here but I did find this lidded snowflake casserole dish in perfect condition at a small collector's shop just outside of town. It was only $6 but I may hold off on buying much for a while. My mother in law has several spring blossom pieces I hope to be gifted with soon. Even better, huh?

Up Up and Away...My Beautiful...Pyrex!

I have a booth at an antique mall, or more like vintage/upscale thrift mall type of place. The other day I noticed the owner had put this into her booth! Whoo hoo!
It's a Balloons Promotional Cinderella bowl. It was part of a chip and dip set and came out in Spring of 1958.
She did have the dip bowl as well, but unfortunately it was dishwasher damaged beyond repair.
That's okay. I'd still have to find the bracket. For now, this is pretty cool for my turquoise Pyrex collection!

Maxwell Street Days in Cedarburg, WI

Went to Maxwell Street Days down in Cedarburg yesterday with my Wife, my Mother, and Grandmother. We all had a good time searching for trinkets and other cool stuff. My Wife and I found a good selection of Pyrex.

The first Pyrex we found was when I saw my Wife literally jump and run to grab something, I couldn't see what at first. When I got over to her she was holding a NIB(Sorta, I'll explain in a sec) set of Spring Blossom Green Cinderella Bowls. After paying for it, I took it and some other stuff to the car and noticed the box didn't say "Spring Blossom", it instead said "Turquoise". So we'll either keep the box and find a set of the Turquoise Butterprint to fill it for our collection or give it to a friend who already has a full set (If she wants it that is).

The next was a 1 1/2 quart Horizon Blue Casserole for my MIL, she had recently broken the bottom of the one she's had for years. We'll send it to her along with some other cool Singer stuff we also found for her.

Next up was a cool a Golden Casserole(Promo 1959) in the warming stand. The dealer had it priced at 30$, I offered her 15$...She said "Are you kidding me?". I said "I gotta start somewhere!". She apparently didn't understand the theory of dickering very well... ;)
I ended up getting it for 20$.

We then found a couple Butterfly Gold pieces, one round mixing bowl to complete a three piece set (300-4)....That is until we find the 4 quart bowl, which will make it a four piece set (400-4). That kind of thinking is "Pyrexia" at it's finest! And a 1 1/2 pint Cinderella bowl in the other color scheme from the full set we already have.

And a small Spring Blossom Green Fridgie to match the new Cinderella bowls above.

Last was a 4 Quart Butterprint Cinderella Bowl in really rough shape.

I was looking for this size bowl to use in test fitting the C&D brackets I make. Just need to find a 1 1/2 pint bowl now.

In other news, I'm trying to find a nice Hostess set so I can attempt to recreate the Hostess Chip and Dip brackets as well as the other style (Multi-piece with the hook over the top) Cinderella C&D bracket. Both styles require brazing the brass wire together so I've been practicing.

There's also a wooden style I might be able to make easily enough. So at some point there may be a full selection of C&D brackets available on my Etsy store.

You can view other photos of our collection over on Flickr, and/or find me on Facebook in the Vintage Pyrex Love group

That's all for today's post. Thanks for reading and I wish you all happy Pyrex hunting.
