The Pyrex Gods Are Smiling...

I've had such good pyrex luck lately.
Found these beauties on my way to do a trade. I stopped in at my local VV at 2:30 in the afternoon and they were just sitting there. I couldn't believe my eyes. The 401 was 2.99 and the 403 was 4.99.

I found all of this one day... a JAJ black snowflake, an old orchard divided dish (which isn't a pattern I like, but, this specific dish is growing on me.) a clear fridgie (which I think is newer) a little blue, a red 402(both from the 1940s primary set, the red is for trade) and two pink cake pans that were ridiculously dirty with baked on gunk. I soaked and scrubbed and they look way better.

Got all this today; A woodland 441, a lime green pie plate and utility dish, a daisy divided with cradle, two red fridgies and 3 pink dinner plates!(they're in awful shape, but, I had to have them)
The Woodland has a funny story behind it. Well, It's actually kind of a sad story... It was awful, I picked it up and next to it was its mate, a 442 that had been dishwashed. Then if that wasn't enough I saw an older asian lady with a Gooseberry pink casserole dish in her cart. I went up to her and tried to explain that it couldn't go into the dishwasher, she smiled and nodded and muttered something in a very thick accent. Almost like she didn't understand me. I went off to look around the store for a bit in the hopes that she would put it back. No such luck. Oh well, Poor Gooseberry. Save the Pyrex!

If you want to see better photos or more of what I've got recently wander on over to my flickr! http://www.flickr.com/photos/lulubellevintage/
I hope you've all had luck as good as mine!
Happy trails!

Thrift Store vs. Antique Store

I have a thrifting win to share with you today!
This is Denver's largest antique mall. It's over 50,000 square feet and has almost 300 dealers. I can always find some good Pyrex here, but the prices aren't cheap!

I stopped there today to hunt for Christmas gifts for my antique-loving friends, and while I was there I saw this {I always see a few sets of these when I'm there}:
A complete primary fridgie set for $75.00.
This is a very typical price for antique stores, I've found.

But today was a WIN for me, because before I stopped in the antique mall, I ran down the street to Savers. I have a problem with passing a thrift store, I HAVE to stop in to see what I might find.

I'm sure some of you can relate...

Anyway, I immediately checked the "Pyrex shelf" as I always do first thing when I enter a thrift store. Sadly, there was no Pyrex in kitchen ware today.

BUT, when I turned the corner and went down the knick-knacks aisle,
I FOUND THIS!
Sure, it was one red 501 short of a full set, but I didn't care! I snatched them up and  ran for the registers to make them officially mine.

They even have the old style lids:

So this is an old set--which made it even more exciting when I got them home, washed them, and inspected them to find...
They are mint! Not a untensil scratch, not a chip to be found. Even the corners show no wear whatsoever:

And now, at the risk of making you all completely green with envy,
check out these prices!!!

That's right.
$0.99 for the 501.
$1.99 for the 502
$2.99 for the 503.

GET OUT!

I could kiss the person who priced these.

So that's my major win.
The antique mall down the street wanted $75.00 {including the 2nd red 501} but I paid a whopping $6 for my happy little set.

And we all lived happily ever after...
The End.

Cheers, Heather @ Lark & Lola

Victory! The Green Dot is Finally Mine!

I am really late in sharing this news but it doesn't at all reflect on how happy I am to have this complete set.

My wonderful hubby bought the green dot bowl off ebay for me. He probably paid much more than I would have but he said it was worth it.

My happy collection!

My primary sets are together now
I still have plenty of items on my wishlist but every time I am in my kitchen, looking at these sets make me so happy.

Pyrex Spotting: Bubba Gumps

My family went to take a trip to Anaheim/Huntington Beach/Newport Beach this past weekend. And at a nice dinner at Bubba Gumps by Disneyland, what did I spot?! Yes, that is a full set of primary Pyrex mixing bowls. After the party that was sitting below them left and did a little quick look and yes, they were real! I didn't snap a picture cause I didn't want to be taken for a freak, even though standing on the seat checking out restaurant props was already drawing enough attention for my Husband. He was so embarrassed. He still hasn't caught on to the whole Pyrex addiction I have. His biggest rant "they don't seal, why do you want something that doesn't seal?!"

Another Pyrex sighting on TV?!

Is that three pieces of the Primary set I see on iCarly?
I've seen this episode countless times thanks to my three kids, but I never noticed it before...

simple finds - simple joys

this morning I made a quick thrifting run & was quite successful
first I spotted the pink daisy casserole dish
and for $4 I couldn't pass it up
typically I'm not a huge pink fan, but lately I have been eyeing the
wonderfulness that is pink pyrex!
at one of my last stops I found the 401 blue I have been looking for
to complete my primary colors set
unfortunately this little guy is a part of the "newer" set
but it was in amazing shape, and I figured it will do for the time being
especially again for only $4
(I've decided that anything pyrex gets a $4 price tag at this particular thrift store)

and after all this, the only challenge I have is the constant re-arranging that occurs
with every new amazing find!

primary colors set...almost

About a week ago I spotted this set in a thrift store.  However, these people knew what they had and priced them more at the antique level - $74.95.  Hmm, not going to pay that, so I admired from afar.  On my way out I did notice that they offer a percentage off based on the color of the tag (seems to be quite the trend at thrift stores these days, but I'm not complaining).  I realized that the orange tag meant 25% off that day, but no, I wanted more!  Yesterday I took the husband to the same store to check it out, and guess what?  Orange tags were now 50% off!  After a closer examination of the set, they were mine.  Now I am on the hunt for the blue 401 (which I have seen just recently, but had no reason to buy it).

All three bowls are in really good condition.  They have a slight color fade around the rim, but overall, no major dings or scratches.  Now I just have to find a place for them, I'm thinking I'm going to have to get creative!

A Successful Swap!

I needed one more piece of this Primary Colors set...the red 402 bowl. I found the other three pieces at an estate sale. Thanks to this site, I was able to do a trade with Jennadesigns!

I had some Spring Blossom she wanted, and she had a gorgeous red 402 and some Turquoise Butterprint she didn't need. It was perfect!!

After a few emails back and forth, it was a done deal!

So happy to have this complete set. I may just have to look at it awhile before I decide what to do with it. :)
