The drought ends with... Christmas?

I've been in the worst Pyrex drought here, lately! In fact, my husband and I thrifted 6 stores today, and I found nothing {except a few mugs, as shown below, I'll come back to those...}

Then finally, at the end of the day I was out running errands alone when I decided I had to stop at one more Goodwill today. Alas! Finally, some Pyrex success!

Yes, it's a Christmas dish {1960 Holiday casserole}, but I was still over the moon to finally find this! And I adore the Christmas Pyrex and have very much wanted more, so this was an exciting find for me. I paid $4.99, and it's in fantastic condition. It didn't have it's lid, but I found a knobbed lid a few aisles from this dish, it's marked Pyrex and it fits, only 99 cents! Works for me.

These "mugs", known as Drink-Ups if I'm correct, were the only other find of the day. I paid $1.50 for all three. I've never seen these in the wild before.

A couple weeks back I visited a new thrift store in a suburb of Denver, and waiting for me on the shelf were these two Gooseberry pink Pyrex dishes. I was thrilled, of course, as pink Gooseberry is among my very favorite patterns and I didn't yet own either of these. A 503 fridgie and a 473 casserole. $7 for both! Great condition, too.

Oh, and then there's this! Two flamingo pink 080s!
I *ADORE* this size! It's so cute. A friend recently found herself a lime 080 and when I saw it in person I knew I had to have some.

So I cheated, I bought these on Etsy.
And I paid the most I've ever paid for Pyrex before, but what can I say? We'd just received our tax refund and I had a little $$$ to splurge with. I couldn't help but make these mine. They are absolutely mint, so there's that.

And so my pink collection has grown! Hurray!
Hopefully it keeps growing.
;-)

And hopefully, my Pyrex drought is officially over.

Cheers,

Pre-Spring Cleaning

While attempting to clean my out of control pantry today, I came across an abnormal amount of canned pumpkin.  What did I do with it, you might ask?
Well I did what any normal Pyrex maniac would do.  I used it as an excuse to make a loaf of pumpkin bread in my Flamingo Pink loaf pan.

For those of you who read my blog pyrexthriftersisters.blogspot.com this may look like a duplicate post from last week.  But last week I made it in the lime green loaf pan.  If any of you are like me, you won't mind the similar post because I never tire of looking at beautiful Pyrex in action.

The Pyrex Gods Are Smiling...

I've had such good pyrex luck lately.
Found these beauties on my way to do a trade. I stopped in at my local VV at 2:30 in the afternoon and they were just sitting there. I couldn't believe my eyes. The 401 was 2.99 and the 403 was 4.99.

I found all of this one day... a JAJ black snowflake, an old orchard divided dish (which isn't a pattern I like, but, this specific dish is growing on me.) a clear fridgie (which I think is newer) a little blue, a red 402(both from the 1940s primary set, the red is for trade) and two pink cake pans that were ridiculously dirty with baked on gunk. I soaked and scrubbed and they look way better.

Got all this today; A woodland 441, a lime green pie plate and utility dish, a daisy divided with cradle, two red fridgies and 3 pink dinner plates!(they're in awful shape, but, I had to have them)
The Woodland has a funny story behind it. Well, It's actually kind of a sad story... It was awful, I picked it up and next to it was its mate, a 442 that had been dishwashed. Then if that wasn't enough I saw an older asian lady with a Gooseberry pink casserole dish in her cart. I went up to her and tried to explain that it couldn't go into the dishwasher, she smiled and nodded and muttered something in a very thick accent. Almost like she didn't understand me. I went off to look around the store for a bit in the hopes that she would put it back. No such luck. Oh well, Poor Gooseberry. Save the Pyrex!

If you want to see better photos or more of what I've got recently wander on over to my flickr! http://www.flickr.com/photos/lulubellevintage/
I hope you've all had luck as good as mine!
Happy trails!

Bits & Pieces

I just thought I'd shared some recent acquisitions, my collection continues to grow {out of control}. Above is the Friendship purchase I made off Etsy. I got both for $22, which is not a deal by my standards, but I decided I wanted them for my daughter's 1st birthday party next month so I was willing to pay a little extra...

Also, yesterday I picked up the Butterprint 442 at an antique store, now all I need is the 441. If anyone has one for trade, let me know!
A friend recently traded me this Garden Medley casserole, I decided it'd make a great dish for my paper whites.
Yesterday, I found this Golden Scroll casserole at Goodwill for $4.99. It needs a good cleaning, but I saw this dish at an antique store recently going for $20. So I happily paid $5 for it. I adore the color!
This is, by far, my most favorite find recently! Pink Rainbow Stripes! Found them at a community garage sale/antique show. They had the same sizes in yellow & blue, too {and if I was rich, I would have jumped on them, but sadly I had to chose}. So I had to decide which color to take home, I chose pink. I paid $25 for the two. Again, more than I'm usually willing to pay, for sure, but it's not every day you see pink Rainbow Stripe, right?
Although this find, at the same sale, was only $5! A Fire King jadite 2qt casserole! Not Pyrex, sorry, but I sort of have a thing for jadite, too. For $5, I couldn't pass it up! Although when I got it home and researched it, I found out it is Fire-King 2000, not vintage. Still, for $5 I love it!
Last but not least, at an indoor flea market I picked up this corner shelf for a steal. I've been looking for a corner shelf to help with my Pyrex display {we live in too small a house for this addiction} so I took it home.
Thanks for looking. Happy Pyrexing!

pink, pink, & more pink

and there is just no complaining about it
this week I've gotten to thrift two days
and have had some pyrex luck for sure
but the funniest part - it has all been pink
now I've mentioned here that I'm not necessary a real pink person
but when it comes to pyrex it truly does make me happy
so the scores this week:
502 gooseberry fridgie with lid
503 gooseberry fridgie sans lid (but I know I can find one!)
Pink Daisy Cinderella Oval Casserole
Flamingo Pink Pie Plate
So the little bit of pink I had before now looks quite complete
happy holidays!

New Additions.

Hello All!
This is my first post of what I hope to be many more.
These last few weeks have been hit and miss pyrex-wise.
I found these lovely pieces over three days at Value Village.

The 402 was $1.99,
The 473 was 3.99, and the lid was a separate item for 0.50,
and The 475 was 5.99.
All of which I thought was quite reasonable, especially since lately prices seem to be sky rocketing.

I also found this sad looking pink "casserole" dish yesterday at a different value village.

It looked okay at first, then, I flipped it over for this sight
that will for sure give me nightmares.

I couldn't just leave it there though, so I paid the 3.99 for it (damn you Value Village) and brought it home where it will never be abused again. It was a good week, and to think all this started because I found this wonderful set of Butterfly Gold at a yard sale for $5.00 this past summer! The rest was added over the next month. The casserole was 7 (lid included) at The Salvation Army, I also got the blue fridgie there for 3. The butter dish was a gift from my mother and the pink gooseberry bowl was $15.00 from an antique sale (it was weak moment, I just love it so much) The mug was 0.50, and there are 5 more of them!

That's all for now, but I have so many more to show you!
until next time!
Happy pyrex trails!

How to Alienate Pyrex Lovers

I didn't get a chance to do much thrifting this weekend. I did find some pieces at antique malls that were insanely overpriced and nothing that I couldn't live without.

I also crossed paths with a very pushy dealer who lectured me on everything Pyrex. But was wrong about almost all of it. She told me she was the Queen of Pyrex and knew everything there is to know. But that Pyrex and FireKing are the same company, Pyrex's delphite line is Bluebonnet - not Bluebelle, and Pyrex never made a Starburst piece. Correcting your potential buyers doesn't seem like the best way to close a deal, but ok. I was willing to look past all of that and keep searching, but she constantly corrected me when I was telling my son the patterns. I know I am a recent collector, but I know Friendship, when I see it. It's not Woodstock like she called it. In the end, we left rather quickly.

I also spotted this Rose colored Hostess Dish. I have never seen this color before but the price was too steep for me. $29.

I found my first clear fridgie and loaf pan and got some pieces off eBay. I got the pink lasagna pan, pink 503 and blue 502 off eBay. Not sure if the white bowl is part of a dinnerware line but I love it. The Terra piece and stripes bowl will likely go to my trade list.

Hope you all had some great finds!

As any Pyrexia sufferer knows, storage for your precious beauties presents a challenge. There is much talk of "The Art of Stacking" and whether to keep the lids separate or with their intended.

I have been keeping my ever growing stash in an already space challenged kitchen cabinet. This presents several obvious problems, starting with the fact that you can't actually gaze upon the addictive patterns and colors. Secondly, there is a slight safety issue with dragging out the whole load to get to the inevitable 4 qt Cinderella on the bottom. I am also concerned about the unnecessary wear and tear to the pieces.

So, like many others I have opted to display my Pyrex (and Fire-King) in a period appropriate cabinet I discovered on Craigslist (haggled $75). It is in perfect vintage condition and includes the simple sliding glass doors (not pictured). My storage and access problems are resolved!

How do you deal with storage?
