man pyrex does exist

at least it does in my house
typically, I think we could agree that most pyrex collectors [obsessors] are women
however, I know that we do have a few men here on the collectives
but still, you get what I mean
even so, I think many of us also have realized that something else can be said us collectors
many of our men have started the practice of
"if you can't beat 'em, join 'em"
[or at least don't complain about the habit, because it isn't going away]
and so joining in is exactly what my husband has come around to
so here are two of his favorite pieces of "man pyrex"
we actually have the complete set, new in box, of the green Pyrex Party Mugs
and he just can't seem to get enough of them
so far he uses them solely for his adult beverages
but I'm looking forward to giving them a whirl this winter for hot beverages too
[that is - if he will share with me]
the mr. also is a big fan of his Terra Mugs
in fact, he liked using them so much that he would bring them over
to our friend's house
and the friend decided he wanted one of them too
so now they have matching Terra Mugs when they hang out
so there you go, spreading the love of Pyrex, one man at a time
hope everyone had a great weekend, and maybe some new finds!

Pyrex Fabrics via Spoonflower

I have been working on taking my Pyrex illustrations and making fabrics on them in Spoonflower. Here is a taste of one of them. Horizon Blue

I can't sell a pattern unless I have ordered it and checked it out already. I ordered swatches of the nine fabrics I have so far, and hope they turn out well. If so, I can open them up to let other people purchase the designs.

Right now I have fabric patterns for Butterfly Gold, Orange Daisy, Pink Daisy, Spring Blossom, Eyes, Horizon Blue (seen above), Friendship, Crazy Quilt and Rooster.

I have more illustrations available, these were just the first few that I did.

I'm Losing It

It has been a while since I posted on the Collective.  Luckily, The Tipsy Pyrexer hasn't been on the loose, so the things that I have been picking up here and there are things I actually remember buying! However, life sometimes gets in the way of blogging about Pyrex (horrible, I know) and I forget about the things I have bought until I find the pictures on my computer.  So for your viewing pleasure, some of my latest finds
I found all of these beauties at St. Vincents.  Pyrex is slowly starting to make it's way back into the thrifts around here and at pretty reasonable prices. I paid $10 for all of this.  2 pieces of Pink Gooseberry for under $10 is pretty cheap in my book.
I picked up these three pieces from the Friendship mixing bowl set from an estate sale.  Luckily, I already had the small 401.

All of these goodies were "To Me From Me" birthday gifts.  I already had the Butterprint 404 so another completed set!
No, no. I haven't bought all this recently.  Sister and I had our garage sale last weekend and this was the "Pyrex Table".  It probably won't surprise you to know that we sold every single piece.  With prices $3 and under, it was bound to happen!  Remember when you decided to collect Pyrex and you picked up every piece in every pattern you saw?  Yeah, that was us a year ago. But it felt good to let this go and share the wealth. Plus, we made room for more!

Until next time....

Spirograph and a Mystery

So I've been getting my Pyrex fix off ebay lately but decided to check out a local thrift I just found out about. Boy am I glad I did because as soon as I walked in I eyeballed this little gem  in what appears to be mint condition.  I was a little shocked at the price to be honest, as they had a yellow hostess 2.5 quart for 40,  Fridgies for like 8-15 bucks and a couple of 1.5 pint casseroles (with out lids) for 18-25. But this....this I snatched for 22.50. It's almost like I stole it!

Now for the mystery...About a week ago I ordered an opal ramekin from an Etsy seller who advertised it as a piece from an Opal Hostess Set. After a post here and several hours of Googeling I was fairly certain that what I actually got was a piece of an Agee ramekin set; however, upon it's arrival it's stamped made in the USA so that threw that theory out the window. I contacted the seller and he assures me it's a piece to an Opal Hostess....but I can't find out anything about this set. He gave me the link of a woman on flikr who has the whole set so I contacted her but she hasn't been able to find out anything either ( I checked out the pics of her set and it looks exactly like mine). I did get in touch with the individual who runs the correlcorner and they assured me there is no such thing as an opal white hostess set and what I have is a piece of a red or yellow that's faded. But honestly I've never run across a faded piece that looks exactly like my other opal pieces, it's not matted and has a nice glossy sheen, no scratch or scuff marks or hint of any residual color that so often comes with damaged and dish washed pieces. So...I don't know. I've posted pictures below and it's labeled on the bottom 410 12 oz Pyrex. If anybody knows anything about this piece I'd greatly appreciate your information before I drive myself crazy!

Turquoise Surprise!

Today my little family headed out to Walmart to return something, and what was supposed to be a dull, short errand turned into one of my favorite Pyrex scores yet!

My husband was driving, and there are two Walmarts about equal distance from our house.
He also knows there is a Goodwill on the way to each of them.
He also knows I will beg him to stop whenever we pass one.
So, he headed toward the Walmart with the Goodwill that is my least favorite Goodwill in Denver, probably hoping I wouldn't ask him to stop since I have never found good Pyrex there since it's grand opening a year ago. That is...

Until today...oh yes, I still made him stop.
{He insisted on stopping after Walmart, however, but that probably worked in my favor as you'll find out.}
Turquoise Pyrex
Still in the bins, fresh out from the back, waiting to be shelved {I always check the bins first, and I've scored some fantastic pieces there} were these three turquoise mixing bowls!
Sure, the 403 is missing, I'll have to hunt that guy down to complete this set.

So guess what they had this set of three priced at?
Pyrex Turquoise 404, 402, $ 401
$6.99!
For all three.
Gougewill Goodwill pricing Pyrex at less than an arm and a leg?
Wow.
I couldn't believe it, and I couldn't throw gently set them in my cart and run to the registers fast enough. {Okay, well maybe I checked the shelves first, then ran.}
Shiny Turquoise 401
They needed a little clean up, but they're nice and shiny.
Great find today, I think!

Cheers & Happy Hunting,

In a moment of desperation...

.....I broke down and made a couple of eBay purchases. It had been months since I had gotten my paws on some Pyrex and really just couldn't stand it anymore. So I ordered this great fridge set....for 26 bucks. I think I got a decent price. It looks great next to my primary mixing bowl set and I just can't get over how good of shape they are in!

Christmas in September....

I found my first Christmas pieces this weekend. I love autumn in Indiana, but I am excited to use these this December!

I got them both at the same antique mall from different sellers. The were reasonably priced.
Merry Fall!

Pyrex spotting!

Last night I spotted some Pyrex in an old classic...

That's right, Holly Golighly feeds Cat in a yellow hostess ramekin. Then, at her party she serves snacks in a chip n' dip golden scroll, a large red hostess, another yellow hostess ramekin, and a solid turquoise bowl.

Oh, and it's Breakfast at Tiffany's in case you didn't figure it out by now :)

Making room for Pyrex...

So this weekend I posted that I have moved some of my collection to other places in the house. Some of these changes, especially moving my blue collection to our bedroom bookcases, cleared up space. Still I was really at a loss of how to display my collection. My china cabinet is small. I have been looking for other cabinets, but there isn't a lot of room in my house for more furniture.

This weekend I made an executive decision to transfer my most beloved sets in my collection, my six Cinderella sets, to be displayed above my cabinets in the kitchen. I was hesitant at first, but it is really growing on me. My downstairs is an open floor plan, so I like seeing four sets in a row above the oven cabinet set while hanging in the living room. It is almost like they are being spotlighted.

Plus, now my china cabinet is not so stuffed and I can arrange other pieces so that they are highlighted. For instance, it is hard to tell in this picture, but I have the spring blossom and butterfly gold round casserole sets that were just stuffed in a stack or under the cabinet.
Also, I combined a Golden Tulip with two smaller opal oval casserole bowls. I love them! The plain opal bowls are so crisp and beautiful.
The pictures aren't perfect, but you get the idea!
This is what it used to look like.
From Pyrex Collective II
This gives an idea of where it is now.

Some notes: 1. To be precise, I only have five complete Cinderella sets: Spring Blossom Green, Butterfly Gold, Horizon Blue, Autumn Harvest, and Friendship. I have *almost* a full set of the Pink Gooseberry pattern, with the exception of the 443 bowl. In my display this bowl is replaced by a 443 in Colonial Mist. If anyone is looking to trade, I am totally up for it. I also have a few duplicates of the Pink Gooseberry in my daughter's room, but not the 443! It doesn't matter too much to me...you can barely tell that one bowl out of 24 is not quite right. Lol
2. I got the idea of displaying the mugs from someone on one of these collectives. Thanks for the idea! I love it!

Random Pyrex Question

Hello there fellow Pyrex lovers, I have a random question. I was window shopping on Etsy and ran across a Pyrex piece advertised as one of the small bowls that came in the hostess set...only it was white! Does anybody know anything about an all white hostess set? I was under the impression they only came in red, yellow and turquoise. Thanks for your help!

Pyrex around the house

We recently moved our son into his own room (he's two) so we have been doing a lot of interior decorating. What better to decorate with, than Pyrex? Here is the Woodland Set in my son's room. I figured Woodland was the best pattern for a little boy and I needed a place to display this. Perfect!

I had a few extra Pink Gooseberry Cinderella Bowl and they found a home in my daughter's room. What a pretty little way to store hair bows and Ponies!
And lastly, I have been planning on showing how my blue collection has found a home in our new bookcases.

Canada & Clowns

Wow, it's been a whole week since anyone posted! Are you all in a drought, too? {Although usually someone posts right after I do :-P it happens every time.} Yeah, not much Pyrex finding going on around these parts, but I do have a couple goodies to show you today.

I was lucky enough to score this gorgeous Canadian delphite fridgie on Etsy last week! I was so excited to find it, I snatched it right up. And could you blame me? It was only $8 and a handful of change.
Pyrex Delphite Fridgie
It didn't come with the lid, but I had an extra lying around. Well shoot, don't they make the perfect match?
Delphite Fridgie
This is my very first Canadian Pyrex find! I hope to score more. Any Canadians out there want to trade some Pyrex with me? Because I'd love to finish this set. I just LOVE the color of the delphite Pyrex.

Then, today I happened upon this charming children's set by Pyrex at a local street fair/flea market, featuring clowns and a circus pattern.
Pyrex Circus plate & bowl
$8 for both! Again, I couldn't help myself. It had to come home with me.
Pyrex Children's Plate & Bowl
Though I don't think I'm brave enough to ever let my kids eat off of it, it is still a really fun addition to my collection!

Everyone have a safe Labor Day weekend!
